If you are looking for a hotel in Bradáčov, its landscape and cultural features can help you choose what to explore based on your travel interests. Polánka Nature Park represents a broader landscape, while the Bradáčovské Wetlands have their own wet meadows and spring areas. There are also historic chapels and recurring annual events. This lets you consider nature, local history and events as different aspects of Bradáčov.

Landscape: Polánka Nature Park and the Bradáčovské Wetlands

Polánka Nature Park covers 15.6 km² and aims to preserve the landscape character of an extensive forest complex with bodies of water, as well as its significant natural and aesthetic values. Batkovy and Domamyšlský les form its core. Forest and water are therefore equally part of the landscape whose character is to be preserved. The nature park also extends into the administrative area of Bradáčov and partly across the cadastral areas of Bradáčov and Horní Světlá u Bradáčova. The figure of 15.6 km² refers to the entire nature park, not to the municipality alone. This scale is important for context: Bradáčov falls within the park’s geographical area, while the park’s size and conservation focus extend beyond the village.

The Bradáčovské Wetlands lie southwest of Bradáčov in the valley of the Novomlýnský potok. The wetland comprises heavily waterlogged, peat-forming meadows with cottongrass, alongside somewhat drier thistle meadows and hillside spring areas. Different moisture conditions therefore occur side by side, with the springs adding another landscape feature to the meadow types. The wetlands are also home to wetland plants and the critically endangered butterfly hnědásek rozrazilový. In contrast to the nature park, with its forest complex and bodies of water, the focus here is on meadows, vegetation and spring areas. The nature park can thus be understood on a broader landscape scale, while the wetlands are defined by their specific wetland habitats.

Chapels and local history

The history of chapels in Bradáčov includes a new building and a reconsecration. In 1925, the original chapel was demolished and a new one was built for 13,000 Kčs. On 28 September 1993, Bishop Antonín Liška of České Budějovice reconsecrated the Chapel of St. Wenceslas in Bradáčov. These dates mark different events: the construction of a new chapel and its later reconsecration. This places the chapel’s history in chronological context without reducing it to a single event. In Horní Světlá, the chapel is considered a sacred monument.

Events and routes

The Svatováclavská pouť is held annually in Bradáčov. The Zlatá šlapka cycling race is also held every year: it passes through Bradáčov and finishes in Šebířov. By contrast, the route of the Praha–Prčice march runs along the edge of Bradáčov’s municipal area. The locations therefore differ: one event takes place in Bradáčov, a race passes through the village and finishes in Šebířov, and a march route runs along the edge of the municipal area. If you would like to include one of these events in your travel plans, check the event dates in advance; for the march route, it is also worth checking the current route.
