Discover Radvanov: Castle, Trails and Landscape
Accommodation in Radvanov
Radvanov combines a late Baroque castle with distinctive connections to the landscape, culture and outdoor activities. When planning a stay, you can tailor your trip to whether you are most interested in architectural history, views, hiking trails or winter sports. Local points of interest range from a commemorative plaque at the castle to windmill ruins on Větrák Hill.
Radvanov Castle and Its History
Radvanov Castle was built in the first half of the 18th century in the late Baroque style, with a garden and park. In 1936, a bronze commemorative plaque to Jan Jeník z Bratřic was set into the façade. The date and style of construction provide a historical reference point; the later plaque adds the memory of a specific person. The castle thus brings together two distinct points of reference from different periods.
The castle is used for cultural events such as concerts and art exhibitions organized by the family. Dates may vary. If you want to plan your trip around a particular concert or exhibition, check the specific event dates in advance. The park is also used for sports: an annual tennis tournament is held there. If you are visiting for the tournament, check the date in advance and whether the event is open to visitors.
Green Spaces and Windmill Ruins
In the eastern part of Radvanov, an undeveloped green strip of the stream valley with a pond remains. This landscape area complements the castle’s historical connections with a distinct natural feature. The pond is in the stream valley, and the green strip remains undeveloped.
The ruins of a windmill are located in a wooded area on Větrák Hill above Radvanov. In clear weather, the hill offers views towards Miličín, Vamberk, Malý Blaník, Velký Blaník and Mladá Vožice. The ruins are accessible year-round; the access information dates from 2011 and should be checked locally before your visit. The surrounding area and the ruins themselves are not maintained. When planning, keep in mind both the clear-weather condition for the views and the condition of the site.
Hiking Trails and Winter Sports
The blue hiking trail runs from Blatnice past Radvánov and continues via Hadí hora, Janov, Pavlov and Mladá Vožice. The yellow hiking trail runs from Rodná to Radvanov, where it joins the blue trail. To find your way, note the distinction: the blue trail describes a series of places via Radvánov, while the yellow trail connects from Rodná and joins the blue route. The trail descriptions come from a strategic development document; check the current waymarking locally. The final section of the “Na konci světa” route also passes through Radvanov before returning to Mladá Vožice.
The Horní Kouty–Radvánov ski area has a ski school and refreshments on site. A 2014 description of the Radvánov ski area in Horní Kouty lists two ski lifts and downhill runs. It specifies a 760-metre blue run and a 660-metre red run. As these details date from 2014, check current operations, run availability and the stated lengths locally before your trip.
The castle, landscape, trails and winter sports offer different ways to enjoy your stay in Radvanov. When planning, consider which of these matter most for your trip, and check the stated conditions for events, hiking trails and older information about winter sports.
