Discover Újezd Nad Lesy: Forest, Trails and Local History
Accommodation in Újezd Nad Lesy
Újezd nad Lesy offers several practical ways to plan a trip: forest trails of varying lengths, a historical puzzle walk and a museum dedicated to local history. The trails range from 4 to 15 kilometres; an approximate duration is also given for the historical route. The natural setting is also clearly defined: the northern half of Újezd nad Lesy lies within Klánovice Čihadla Nature Park, and Klánovický Forest extends across the cadastral area of Újezd nad Lesy.
Forest trails of varying lengths
Lesní galerie I, also known as “Tam a zpátky za zvířátky”, is a 5 km educational trail through the forest area of Blatov. There are 30 animal-themed stops along the route. The educational trail also includes sports features in a forest clearing near Blatov. So the gallery focuses both on the animal-themed stops and on the additional sports features.
Lesní galerie II is a 15 km route through Cyrilov in the cadastral area of Újezd nad Lesy. It is divided into three circular routes and includes 60 stops and five rest areas. Compared with the 5 km Galerie I, it differs not only in its greater length, but also in its circular routes and rest areas.
Nature park and forest
Klánovice Čihadla Nature Park is also home to Klánovický les – Cyrilov Nature Reserve, which covers an area of 397 ha. Klánovický Forest also extends across the cadastral area of Újezd nad Lesy. Its size, good accessibility, well-maintained paths and flat terrain make it a popular recreation area for Prague residents. These details give the forest its own context alongside the educational trails described above.
Local history on foot
The historical puzzle walk “Vycházka s tajenkou historií Újezda nad Lesy” is 4 km long. It follows easy terrain along city streets and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. It passes through the oldest parts of Újezd nad Lesy, by villas, a former bathing spot and a former dance hall. In addition to its length, the route also has an estimated duration; the two forest galleries, by contrast, are described as 5 km and 15 km long.
Another chapter in the area's history dates back to the Middle Ages: the village of Hol in Újezd nad Lesy was established in the 14th century and destroyed during the Hussite Wars. Two wells and field boundary strips have survived to this day around the former village. The area's history therefore encompasses both the historical landmarks along the route and traces of an earlier settlement.
Cycling route and museum
According to a route description dated 12 July 2005, a cycle path along the Běchovický potok reaches the beginning of Újezd nad Lesy, turns into Dubinská and runs along the bank of a pond. If you plan to use this cycling route, check the current route and signage before setting off.
The Újezdské Museum complements the trails with a broader perspective on local life. Its permanent exhibition presents life in three formerly independent communities from the late 19th century to the present day; it also hosts themed exhibitions. The exhibition's time period differs from the history of the medieval village of Hol and offers a glimpse into a later chapter of local history.
