Vrčeň lies in a hollow surrounded by forests. Štědrý reaches 668 metres and is considered the last outlying peak of the Brdy Mountains. The surrounding area offers opportunities for hiking and cycling. Anyone looking for a hotel for a stay in Vrčeň will find both nature trails and historic buildings here to help plan their trip.

Hiking trails on Štědrý

Two hiking routes with information boards run through the wooded landscape around Štědrý. The Naučná stezka Štědrý nature trail leads from the Opatský pond in Vrčeň up to Štědrý. Seven stops provide educational information.

The Stezka svatého Vojtěcha begins at Vyšehrad and runs through the Štědrý forest along part of the green-marked hiking trail. It ends near the Baroque Chapel of St. Vojtěch and the Dobrá voda spring. At five information boards, visitors can learn basic information about the saint, who is said in legend to be connected with Vrčeň. The two trails focus on different things: one links the Opatský pond with Štědrý, while the other leads to the chapel and spring.

Chapel and local history

The Chapel of St. Vojtěch lies about 1.5 kilometres northeast of Vrčeň on the slope of Chlumec Forest, north of road II/191 towards Rožmitál pod Třemšínem. A turnoff from the green-marked hiking route leads to it from the road. The chapel is an early Baroque, octagonal central-plan building. Historically, it became a destination for many pilgrims and a stopping point for processions.

The Church of St. Lawrence stands in a prominent position above the town centre. The single-nave building has a two-storey tower at its western end. The protected monument includes the church and the grounds of the former cemetery. Other valuable historic and artistic monuments in the town include the statue of St. John of Nepomuk opposite the inn on the village square and the statue of the Virgin Mary by the fire station.
