Přimda: Discover the Castle, Church and Educational Trails
Accommodation in Přimda
You can get to know Přimda through its cultural monuments, a museum and several themed educational trails. The topics range from the castle’s historical function to architectural details of the Church of St. George. The trails focus on local history as well as nature and geology. When planning a stay, you can choose between individual historic buildings, the museum and routes with multiple stops. For orientation, it is helpful to know that these topics take different forms: the castle and church offer tangible historical and architectural points of interest, while the educational trails bring together several stops and nature-related topics.
Castle, Church and Museum
The ruins of Přimda Castle were declared a national cultural monument by the government in 1962. Historically, the castle also served as a state prison from the outset. The Church of St. George stands in the center of Přimda, on the eastern edge of Republic Square. The nave, the church’s longitudinal main section, retains masonry from the original Romanesque construction phase. Another architectural detail can be found outside, in the south wall of the church tower: an octagonal Gothic stone baptismal font is built into it. The church thus brings together a surviving Romanesque section and a Gothic detail on the tower.
The Přimda Museum is a member of a network of agricultural museums. It is freely accessible with a key issued by the information center; guided tours can be arranged by prior agreement. If you are planning a guided tour, arrange it in advance. Before your visit, also check the current arrangements for keys and guided tours.
Educational Trails Between History and Nature
The Hradní naučná stezka Přimda leads through history and to natural attractions in Přimda and the surrounding area. It runs through the picturesque natural landscapes of the Bohemian Forest and past natural, geological and historical sights. The route includes 10 interesting stops and 7 interactive educational stations for children. The Přimdská naučná stezka is over 7 kilometers long and has 12 themed stops covering the history of the town of Přimda and the Kolowrat-Krakowský family. Comparing the two trails reveals their different emphases: the Hradní stezka includes natural attractions and interactive stations for children, while the length and the themes of town and family history are specified for the Přimdská stezka.
Several cycling and hiking routes also pass through the town of Přimda. As route details may change, check the latest route information before setting out.
