For a stay in Mirošov U Rokycan, you can choose between architectural history, historic landscape features and trails as different points of focus. These include St. Joseph’s Chapel, which forms part of the present-day church; the Neoclassical parish house; Náměstí míru, with its several architectural styles; and former quarries along the blue-marked hiking trail from Janov to Hrádek. The landscape adds to the local and cultural history: the Mirošov Basin lies amid the forested Brdy Hills, and Kamínky Nature Park is located west of Mirošov.

Church, Parish House and Townscape

In 1693, Adam František Vratislav z Mitrovic had St. Joseph’s Chapel built in Mirošov. It forms the central part of today’s St. Joseph’s Church. The Mirošov parish house is located in Nejedlého Street, almost opposite the church. Its present building has two storeys and is Neoclassical. It was built in 1888, after the original Baroque house burned down in 1887. At the church, 1693 marks the chapel’s construction; at the parish house, 1887 and 1888 mark the fire and the new building. This makes it possible to distinguish two building histories with different points of reference in time.

The exhibition pavilion in the parish-house courtyard hosts exhibitions, especially during the Mirošov pilgrimages and church fairs. If you would like to visit an exhibition, check local dates in advance. Náměstí míru offers a different emphasis in the townscape: its buildings are predominantly Late Neoclassical, with some Art Nouveau and Baroque buildings, and have ground and upper floors. The range of styles complements the individual building histories of the church and parish house with a more varied view of the square.

Dvorec: Landform and Chapel

The fortified site of Dvorec lies in the Na Hrádku field by the bank of the Skořický potok. A high rampart supports a flat, roughly trapezoidal surface. It is enclosed by a horseshoe-shaped ditch and rampart, open towards the stream. A small Neo-Gothic chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes stands at the summit, beneath a protected lime tree. Dvorec and its chapel are among the archaeological features currently under protection. The description thus links a specific landform with a structure at the summit of the site.

Hiking Trails and Landscape

Lom Nad Planinou is a system of quarries that had already been abandoned by the end of the 19th century. The system lies directly along the blue-marked hiking trail from Janov to Hrádek. The route connects the quarries’ former use with a specifically named hiking trail. Another way to explore local history is the “Mirošovský kamenný zástup” walk, which leads to Mirošov’s Baroque sculptural works. These are different themes: abandoned quarries along a hiking trail, and a walk associated with Baroque art.

The Mirošov Basin lies amid the forested Brdy Hills, which surround it on all sides. Kamínky Nature Park, covering 834 hectares, is located about 2 km west of Mirošov. There, a paved forest road forms part of a cycling route that leads, among other places, to Lopata Castle, Kornatice and Kozel Chateau near Šťáhlavice. Two different measures can help with orientation: the approximate distance gives the nature park’s location west of Mirošov, while the area figure describes its size.

Historical Sites Nearby

The Church of St. James the Greater in Chylice, near Mirošov, was already standing in 1295. In 1753, it was repaired again, along with its tower. Pilgrimages to this church also form part of its historical context: the pilgrimages of St. James were well known until the 1980s; their tradition was subsequently interrupted in the area around the church. This keeps the history of the pilgrimages distinct from their later interruption.
