Liblín – Castle, Culture and the Berounka
Accommodation in Liblín
Liblín combines cultural history with a landscape shaped by the Berounka. If you are looking for a destination with architecture, historical art and nature, you can explore two distinct highlights here: the castle grounds and Berounka Nature Park. Liblín is first mentioned in writing in 1180. This date provides an early point of reference for the town’s history, well before the 18th-century buildings and works of art mentioned here.
Castle Grounds and Architectural History
Liblín Castle was converted into a Baroque château in the 18th century; later alterations gave it its current Neoclassical appearance. This sequence distinguishes the building’s history from its present architectural appearance: the Baroque conversion belongs to an earlier phase, while the Neoclassical form resulted from later alterations. The castle grounds also include an English landscape park and numerous Baroque sculptures. Together, the castle, park design and sculptural art are the main features here.
The Baroque Church of St. John of Nepomuk is also part of the castle grounds. Construction began in 1751. A bridge connects it to the castle building, making the architectural relationship between the two clear. Both the church as a building in its own right and its connection to the castle are important to understanding the ensemble.
The former castle park is home to a statue of St. Margaret of Antioch, a Baroque work dating from 1758. The bridge over the Berounka in Liblín is also a cultural monument. Thus, a dated work of art in the former park and a bridge recognized as a cultural monument represent different aspects of the town’s history. The two specific dates are easy to place in context: construction of the church began seven years before the statue was created; both dates fall in the mid-18th century.
According to a report dated August 21, 2026, the castle park was freely open to the public, and visitors could see historic statues while walking there. Check access again before your trip.
The Berounka Landscape
Liblín is located in Berounka Nature Park. The protected landscape includes the deeply incised valley of the Berounka and its tributaries, rock outcrops, adjacent woodland and agricultural land. The landscape therefore comprises more than just the river: the valley, rocks, forests and agricultural areas are all part of the protected area. This natural setting offers a different focus for choosing your destination than the history of the castle grounds.
The Liblín – lihovar site is a regionally important winter roost for the greater mouse-eared bat (Myotis myotis).
Hiking along the Radnický potok
There is a specific crossing to bear in mind on the “Berounka and the Radnický potok Valley” circular hike: the wooden logs over the Radnický potok are impassable, so the stream must be forded. The crossing is therefore an important part of planning this route. Check conditions before setting out, as they can vary depending on the water level.
