Kozojedy: Monuments, Cycling Route and Events
Accommodation in Kozojedy
Kozojedy offers several ways to plan a stay: protected buildings, a monument bearing an inscription commemorating people who fell from two localities, a cycling route through the village, and specific events from 2025. You can make your choice based on whether you are primarily interested in architectural history and remembrance, want to include Kozojedy in a cycling trip, or would like to learn about the events mentioned. The following topics offer different perspectives; the event information refers specifically to 2025.
Church and Bell Tower
The Church of St. Nicholas (sv. Mikuláše) in Kozojedy has been protected as a cultural monument since May 3, 1958. This date marks the start of its protection and should not be confused with the year it was built. This provides a clear point of reference for understanding the village’s history: the protected status is part of the church’s history, while the bell tower can be understood through its architectural form and the history of its replica.
The protected bell tower, “zvonice,” is located in the district of Borek. It is a low, square wooden structure on a stone base, built in the early 1990s as a replica of the original bell tower. Its square plan, wood and stone base define the structure; the replica from the early 1990s refers back to the original bell tower. This allows you to view the church and bell tower as distinct monuments in the context of the village’s history.
Remembrance and Inscription
The monument to those who fell in the First World War combines an inscription and sculpture. It bears the names of those who fell from Kozojedy and Borek; the inscription thus explicitly includes both localities. The monument is a modern sandstone sculpture, about four metres high, depicting a woman and a child. Its approximate height and material give an idea of its physical form, while the figures and names make its commemorative purpose more tangible. Those interested in the village’s history can view the design and inscription as two distinct aspects, without narrowing the memorial’s connection to Kozojedy alone.
Kozojedy on the Střela Cycling Route
The Střela cycling route passes directly through Kozojedy. Kozojedy is therefore identified as a village on this route and can be included in cycling trip plans. This connection to the route differs from the protected buildings and memorial: it describes a route through the village, while the church, bell tower and monument stand as individual cultural points of interest. If cycling is important to your trip, the route offers a different starting point from choosing destinations based on local history.
Events from 2025
The 2025 Staročeské máje festivities included a May procession through Bohy, Buček, Lednice and Kozojedy, as well as an evening May celebration. On February 8, 2025, Kozojedy hosted the Kozojedský masopust, featuring a masked procession. Both entries concern events held in 2025; if you would like to plan a trip around a future event date, please check the municipality’s event calendar.
