Černíkov: Valley, Castle Ruins and Cycling
Accommodation in Černíkov
Černíkov lies at the foot of Malý Kouřim mountain and at the end of a broad, flat valley. The valley gradually rises to the north; on its eastern side, a forested massif on Velký Bítov mountain bounds the valley. The flat valley floor and the northern ascent describe different aspects of the same landscape, while the forested massif marks its eastern side. The hilly surroundings are suitable for cycling. If cycling is a factor in your trip, this suitability may be one criterion when choosing your destination.
Ruchomperk Castle Ruins
Ruchomperk Castle Ruins are located in Černíkov. They were probably built towards the end of the 12th century on the site of a prehistoric fortification. Thus, alongside the medieval structure, the site also has an older history as a fortification. Its layout is oval or rectangular. A mighty ditch and an outer rampart surround the site on three sides; a transverse ditch divides the inner layout into two areas. The site is overgrown with mature deciduous woodland. The outer rampart and ditch mark the defenses, while the transverse ditch divides the interior.
Historic Sites and Dates
Černíkov is first mentioned in writing in 1379. Pušperk Castle Ruins lie on a hill about two kilometers from Černíkov and were first mentioned in 1266. These dates refer to different historical events: the two dates for the settlements mark their first mentions, while the end of the 12th century is the probable construction date of Ruchomperk. The dates should therefore not be read as a single building chronology. Another historic landmark is the former fortress of Černíkov. It stood by the village pond next to the village square and was last mentioned as abandoned in 1592. Pušperk provides a reference point on the hill; the former fortress is part of the village area by the pond.
Cycling and Circular Route
The “Co je za humny Černíkova” nature trail is five kilometers long. Its on-site infrastructure may change; check current information before your tour. A virtual circular route through Černíkov, Pušperk, Ruchomperk and Stará Ves is also listed nearby. The municipality directs visitors to an interactive map for route details. When planning, keep the information distinct: the five-kilometer distance refers to the nature trail, while the map information relates to the virtual circular route. Pušperk is about two kilometers from Černíkov; this distance from the village is a different planning measure from the length of the nature trail.

Regular bus connections run from Černíkov to Kdyně, Domažlice and Klatovy. Check current timetables before travelling, as transport connections may change. These destinations provide specific reference points for bus connections when planning your trip.
