Vlčí Habřina brings together historic local features, a landscape of ponds and forests, and a local dumpling tradition. This provides an overview to help you decide in advance whether local history, nature, regional food culture or cycling should be the focus of your stay.

Valley, Forests and Ponds

Vlčí Habřina lies 219 metres above sea level in a small valley surrounded by forests to the north and south. The extensive Sopřečský rybník lies west of the village. The forest pond Černý Nadýmač is located in Vlčí Habřina; its reed beds and alder groves define its character. It also features rare flora and many species of waterbirds. The two ponds are therefore clearly distinguished by their characteristics: the western location and size of Sopřečský rybník stand out, while Černý Nadýmač is notable for its forest-pond landscape, vegetation and birdlife.

Wolf Pits and Local History

The “Vlčí jámy” in Vlčí Habřina are the remains of wolf enclosures dating from the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. The first wolf pit is almost three metres deep and ten metres in diameter. The second is larger, with a circumference of 50 paces. Depth and diameter are the key measurements for the first, and circumference for the second; despite the different units of measurement, the second is larger. The Obora forest lies south of Vlčí Habřina. Its name recalls a former wolf enclosure. The “Vlčí jámy” are notable for the remains of the enclosures, while the Obora forest is notable for the historical connection reflected in its name.

Cycling route 4272 also passes through Vlčí Habřina in sections 3, 4 and 5, and continues from there towards Vápno. It follows existing paved and unpaved paths and is marked with appropriate traffic signs. The route number, section details and direction provide concrete reference points for planning a cycling trip. The different path surfaces are part of the route described, as is the signage.

The dates highlight different aspects: the wolf enclosures date from the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, while the dumpling tradition goes back to 1994. In Vlčí Habřina, a historical connection spanning several centuries sits alongside a more recent, datable production tradition. These themes can offer different ways to explore the village during your stay, from local history to regional food culture.
