Těchonín: Local History and Hiking Destinations
Accommodation in Těchonín
Těchonín combines local history with scenic landscapes and hiking destinations. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in the municipality, its religious buildings, trails, and the Bouda Artillery Fortress cater to a range of interests. When planning your trip, you can weigh up whether to focus on cultural history or time in the countryside.
Landscapes between the River and the Viewpoint
The Tichá Orlice flows from Celné through the lower part of Těchonín and onward towards Sobkovice. The treeless Stanovnický kopec offers views over the surrounding countryside. Extensive forests and scenic landscapes also shape the natural setting around Těchonín. The river, open hill, and forest offer different impressions of the area.
Church, Chapel, and Local History
The Church of Saint Margaret in Těchonín was built in 1704 on the site of an earlier wooden church. The church contains an altarpiece painted by Josef Vorlíček in 1862. It depicts Saint Margaret killing a dragon. The construction date and the painting point to different periods: the painting was created considerably later than the church building.
A memorial beside the cemetery commemorates 104 men and women of Greek or Macedonian origin buried there. In Celné, a district of Těchonín, the Celné Cross bears the year 1790. The Celné Chapel was built in 1825, is dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk, and has an onion-shaped dome with a lantern for the bell.
The two buildings in Těchonín and Celné have different points of interest: at the church, the earlier wooden church and the later altarpiece are part of the town's history; at the Celné Chapel, its construction date, dedication, and dome shape define its character. The revived tradition of the Těchonín Masopust procession has also continued since 2001, complementing the historic buildings with a traditional custom.
Hiking and Winter Outings
A blue-marked hiking trail leads from Těchonín through the Čerňovice Valley to Suchý vrch. In winter, groomed cross-country ski trails in Těchonín can be used for outings in the surrounding area. A hike to a named destination and a seasonal activity on the ski trails are two different options to consider. Another hiking option follows a green-marked trail from Těchonín railway station to the Bouda Artillery Fortress; the route is 6.5 km long. Check the current trail conditions before setting out.
Bouda Artillery Fortress
The Bouda Artillery Fortress has been listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1995. It is located in a wooded mountain massif above Těchonín, Lichkov, and Dolní Boříkovice. Guided tours of the fortress include exhibitions on the army, national defence, and Czechoslovak fortifications. The topics therefore range from the army to the country's historic defensive structures. The fortress is also home to a protected winter roost for nine bat species.
