Slepotice is located near the Loučná River. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in the center and the former castle complex of Slepotice are particularly important for understanding the village. Another focal point is the leisure area by the fire-water reservoir, which is open during the summer season. Slepotice thus brings together architectural history, traces of a fortified site and seasonal leisure activities. If you are planning a stay, you can consider these as different reasons to get to know the village.

Church and Architecture in the Center

The present-day Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was built in 1818 as a single-nave structure with a pentagonal presbytery and a tower topped by an onion dome. A single-nave structure is organized around a main nave; the pentagonal shape describes the presbytery. The church stands on elevated ground in the center of Slepotice. Its year of construction, floor plan and tower shape offer different clues for understanding the church’s architecture: 1818 indicates when it was built, while the presbytery and onion dome describe its form.

The memorial to the fallen stands next to the church. Another detail of cultural and historical interest is a large cross in Slepotice. It depicts Christ on the cross, the Virgin Mary and Saint John, and was acquired from the former Minorite monastery in Pardubice. These details add the memorial and the cross’s origins to the history of the village.

The Former Fortified Site

The Slepotice fortress was included in the documented division of the paternal estate on April 15, 1510. This date refers to the division, not to the construction of the fortress. It provides a specific historical reference without equating the event with the construction history of the site.

Faint remains of the large castle complex survive in an orchard behind house No. 1. Inside, a platform is only faintly discernible; it is surrounded by a ditch that has now been partially filled in. The ditch is most clearly visible on the eastern side.

Seasonal Leisure Area

The leisure area by the Slepotice fire-water reservoir is open during the summer season. Its operation depends on weather conditions and water and air temperatures. This makes it a different focal point from the history of the village: here, the season and the operating conditions at the time matter as well as the subject of your visit. If the area is important to your trip, check the conditions in advance.

When looking for hotels for a stay in Slepotice, you can first consider which focus matters to you: the church’s architecture, the history and terrain of the fortified site, or the seasonal leisure area. The proximity of the Loučná River adds to the geographical context of the village. Together, these features offer different ways to experience Slepotice, while keeping its historical attractions distinct from its weather-dependent leisure offering.
