Accommodation in Jaroslav
Jaroslav combines a waterside landscape with traditional customs and traces of local history. The municipality lies in the Lodrantka catchment area. The stream rises west of Jaroslav in wooded areas and feeds a pond on the western edge of the village. You can therefore focus your stay either on the landscape and waterways or on local customs and historic landmarks.
Landscape, waterways and routes
Two derelict ponds, believed to date from the 18th century, have been restored, and a wetland has also been created. These features are located in a forest complex above Road 35 and above the municipality. The restoration was completed in 2019–2020. An original oak pipe from the bottom outlet of the two ponds is on display on the dam of the lower pond at Rybníky Jaroslav. This technical detail adds a reminder of the pond system’s function to the natural surroundings.
A game enclosure with fallow deer and mouflons is located in a forest not far from Jaroslav. Several hiking trails and cycling routes run through the surrounding area. The KČT cycling route No. 4195 also passes through Jaroslav; check the current signage before setting out. If cycling is important to you, the route number provides a specific starting point for planning.
Vodění Jidáše and Easter
Vodění Jidáše is an annual tradition and the highlight of the Easter processions in which children carry rattles and clappers. In 2012, the tradition was added to the List of Intangible Assets of Traditional and Folk Culture of the Czech Republic. A new record made on 30 March 2024 also documents the tradition in Jaroslav. In the final procession on Holy Saturday, a boy wears a costume made of straw or tow, and a verse about Judas’s betrayal is recited. The children visit the homes in the municipality and collect gifts. To conclude, the costume is ceremonially burned, the verse is recited one last time, and the reward is shared among the participants.
Building history and memorial sites
Historic traces include Gottlův kříž. It marks the place where the last owner of the Zámrsk estate died on 17 January 1941. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary was built in 1906 in the forest on the left-hand side of the road to Horní Jelení. House No. 3 is one of three parts of the estate of Lord Jaroslav, which later became part of the Zámrsk estate. A memorial in Borek commemorates the fallen Soviet soldier Saša Lepšin. These examples include a precisely dated death, a year of construction, the ownership history of an estate and a personal memorial.
Former school and recreation areas
The former school building in Jaroslav dates from 1886 and houses a large cultural hall. Behind the building are two pétanque courts and a rectangular multi-purpose playing field with a permanently installed basketball hoop.
