Střeň: Alluvial Forest, Cultural Heritage and Cycling Route
Accommodation in Střeň
If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Střeň, you can plan your trip around your interests in nature, local history and cycling. The area offers a range of points of interest: the alluvial forest complex in the protected landscape area, historic buildings and the Moravská stezka.
Střeň in the Protected Landscape Area
Střeň lies in the heart of the largest alluvial forest complex in the Litovelské Pomoraví Protected Landscape Area. Střeň is also the only municipality within this protected landscape area. Protection zones II and IV of the protected landscape area are found within the cadastral area of Střeň. Its status as the only municipality applies to the protected landscape area as a whole; the protection zones indicate the classification within the cadastral area. The history of the landscape also includes the Morávka river branch, which once flowed directly through Střeň. The protected-area location and the former course of the river are thus distinct aspects of the landscape.
Cycling Route and Bridges
The Moravská stezka passes through Střeň. On the section between Lhota nad Moravou and Střeň, cyclists cross the Morava River over a bridge before reaching the village. The river crossing is therefore before Střeň, while the route continues through the village. This is a useful point of reference for this section of the cycling route: the river crossing and the passage through the village are two successive points in different locations.
Two other bridges also have clear location references. Hrobé most lies between Střeň and Lhota; O bílech slópku is in the direction of Štěpánov. Their names therefore point to different local landmarks and complement the geographical orientation provided by the cycling route.
Building and Local History
The cross known as Kříž s Kristem was erected in the centre of Střeň in 1867. It commemorates the fact that the village was spared from cholera. The Chapel of St. George is the oldest surviving monument in the village and was built in 1718. It was later reconstructed and rededicated in 1992. Two dates are therefore important to the chapel’s timeline: its construction and its later reconstruction and rededication. The chapel and the cross represent different historical traces: the chapel has a building history, while the cross commemorates a specific event in the village’s history.
The former railway station building in Střeň is also part of the local history. Designed in the Alpine style, it opened on 1 October 1911. Its design and exact opening date give the building a distinct place in the history of the village. Together with the chapel and the cross, it adds a railway connection to the religious and commemorative aspects of local history.
Summer Refreshment Area
The refreshment area in Střeň is used in summer and has a children’s playground. Sand courts are available for tennis or volleyball. The area therefore offers both a play space and facilities for two specific sports. Bear in mind when planning your visit that the refreshment area is used in summer. This local leisure spot can be considered separately from the natural landscape, building history and cycling route.
