Walks, views and a trail for children
From Komárovský kopec, you can see across Haná, Nízký Jeseník and Zábřežská vrchovina. A cross dating from 1833 stands on the hill. For walks and excursions, a covered gazebo with benches and a table offers a place to rest; there is also an information board and a summit register nearby.
Komárovská stezka pro děti is an easy trail primarily intended for families with children. Its theme changes throughout the year to reflect the seasons. The route leads from the seniors’ home through a new cherry avenue to a fire pit with seating beneath a copse, continues alongside a biocorridor and ends at the chapel. Five stations with interchangeable boards encourage children to learn about nature, think and get some gentle exercise.
A children’s playground in the grounds of Domov seniorů Komárov is also open to the public. As access arrangements may change, it is advisable to check them before visiting.
Local history and festivals
The Chapel of the Virgin Mary stands beside a path that Komárov residents once used to get to church in Mladějovice. It was built at the end of the 19th century and reconsecrated in 2005 after a long period of disuse. In the village square, the chapel, a lime tree and a historic stone cross dating from 1823 together form the historic centre. This cross in the square is different from the 1833 cross on Komárovský kopec.
Komárov was established during one of the last phases of settlement in the Šternberk area, at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. The first explicit written mention of the village dates from 1412/1413.
Local events include the traditional Komárovské hody and Komárovský výšlap, a recurring spring hiking event. The 2025 edition of Komárovské hody was the twentieth. The second edition of Komárovský výšlap took place in 2025 and the third in 2026; in 2026, the programme also included a shorter group walk around the area. Dates and programmes may vary from year to year, so check the event details before visiting.
Plan your cycling trip and journey
The 30-kilometre Do hlubin věků cycling route starts with a flat section, followed by a steep climb and a long, steep descent. It runs along paved roads and unpaved forest paths, from Mladějovice through Komárov to Řídeč. The route is suitable for experienced cyclists. By contrast, Komárovská stezka pro děti is explicitly designed as an easy trail, so the two options differ considerably in difficulty.
Between Komárov and Mladějovice, there is a railway station on the line to Šumperk and Olomouc, about 500 metres from Komárov. Check train services before travelling. From Mladějovice railway station, yellow- and blue-marked hiking trails run together towards Komárov and Řídeč. These trails offer another point of reference when planning a hike; check their conditions locally.
