Prosenice – Waterside Landscapes and Village History
Accommodation in Prosenice
Prosenice lies in the flat landscape of the Moravian Gate, about five kilometres from Přerov. The landscape and local history offer two distinct focal points for planning a trip: waterways shape the setting, while buildings and the Muzeum Prosenice offer insights into the village’s past. When planning a stay, you can decide whether to focus mainly on the waterside landscape, architectural history, the museum or the Bečva Cycle Route.
Landscape and Water
The Strhanec water channel flows through the centre of Prosenice. The Bečva flows through the cadastral area, which also contains several ponds. The channel gives the village centre a direct connection to the water, while the Bečva and the ponds describe the wider landscape of the cadastral area. This makes it possible to distinguish between waterways in the centre and other water features in the cadastral area.
Village History and Buildings
The church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist is a monument of local significance and was built in 1787–1788. The mill with its Žudr also dates from the 18th century, is privately owned and is used as a recreational property. It is privately owned and is used as a recreational property. A school building dates from 1859; Prosenice also has a bell tower that is more than 200 years old. The church and mill therefore share a connection to the 18th century, while the school building dates from later.
The layout of the oldest part of the village suggests that Prosenice may have been one of the old Slavic villages of the street-type circular village (rundling) form. Parts of this settlement pattern are still visible in the buildings today. The former cadastral municipalities of Velké Prosenice and Malé Prosenice were merged into one municipality in 1948. The village’s history thus brings together a possible older settlement form and a clearly dated change to its municipal structure.
Discover the Muzeum Prosenice
The Muzeum Prosenice shows what life in the village was like about a hundred years ago. Its themes include local crafts, agricultural equipment, and exhibitions about the local sugar factory, brickyard and dairy. The museum’s scope thus extends beyond individual historic buildings to include everyday life, work and agriculture. The theme of crafts connects exhibition content with practical demonstrations.
The programme includes practical demonstrations of traditional crafts, workshops for children, talks and concerts. Individual events may vary. If you would like to experience a particular type of event, check the programme before your visit.
The Bečva Cycle Route
The Bečva Cycle Route passes through Prosenice and is used by cyclists, inline skaters, tourists and cross-country skiers. The section described is 65 kilometres long in total. This distance is a separate point to consider if you want to include the Bečva Cycle Route in your travel plans. Seasonal conditions may vary; check the route conditions before setting out, especially if you have a particular activity or time of year in mind.
