Nahošovice offers several specific points of interest for a trip: the chapel dedicated to the Holy Trinity, archaeological traces at Zajíček and the former fortress. At the western edge, the Dřevohostický Forest Natura 2000 site extends into the municipality in two sections. A visit to Farma Nahošovice can also be planned, provided it is arranged by phone in advance. While the chapel and former fortress each have their own building history, the finds at Zajíček draw attention to archaeological materials.

The chapel and its predecessor

The chapel in Nahošovice is dedicated to the Holy Trinity and was built in 1874 on the site of an earlier wooden bell tower. The site thus links two successive structures: the bell tower stood there first, and the chapel was built later. The year 1874 refers to the chapel. Its dedication, construction date and predecessor provide three specific points of reference for understanding this part of the village’s history.

Archaeological finds at Zajíček

At Zajíček, the solitary mound is considered the largest of the local mounds. The word “solitary” draws attention to its individual form, while the size description places it in relation to the other local mounds. Excavations uncovered pottery fragments, a flint knife and stone axes. The size description and the list of finds complement each other without describing the same thing: “largest” ranks the mound in comparison with the local mounds, while the excavation lists specific objects. This makes it possible to characterize the site both by its form and by its archaeological finds.

The former fortress

The fortress of Nahošovice dates from the 14th century. All that remains is a small mound measuring about 6.5 × 3 metres, which stands around 1.5 metres above the bottom of the moat. These figures describe different dimensions: 6.5 × 3 metres gives the extent of the surviving mound; the height measurement is relative to the bottom of the moat. The measurements apply to the surviving remains, not to the extent of the former fortress as a whole. The former fortress stood in the northeastern part of the settlement, near the centre of the village. Its date, surviving remains and location thus provide different points of reference for the site.

Landscape at the western edge

The Dřevohostický Forest Natura 2000 site extends into the western edge of the municipality of Nahošovice in two sections. Both details are useful for orientation: the cardinal direction indicates the location, while the number of sections specifies how the site extends into the municipality. Dřevohostický Forest thus complements the historical themes with a landscape connection relating to the western edge of the municipality. If you want to distinguish the area’s history from its surroundings, this offers a different point of interest from the chapel, mound and former fortress.

Visiting Farma Nahošovice

A visit to Farma Nahošovice is possible by prior arrangement by phone. Include this arrangement in your plans and call ahead before your visit. At the farm, therefore, the practical step comes first, whereas the chapel and fortress are primarily understood through their history.
