Přerov District: Culture, Nature and Routes
Accommodation in Přerov District
In Přerov District, you can plan your trip around a range of interests: historical exhibitions, walking and cycling routes, or observing nature. The following destinations and routes give you concrete pointers for choosing where to go. First consider which stops you would like to visit and what kind of excursion you want to shape your stay.
Museums, Castles and Regional History
In Přerov, the Comenius Museum presents its permanent exhibitions at Přerov Castle. They cover almost 1,200 square metres, providing plenty to explore during a museum visit. The ORNIS building is near Michalov Park and the Žebračka Nature Reserve. This means you can consider the museum's location alongside two different natural and recreational areas when finding your way around Přerov, without treating them as the same excursion destination.
The castles also offer different historical perspectives. At Tovačov Castle, the focus is on the estate's owners, its architectural and historical development, and historical figures. Tovačov is near the confluence of the Morava and Bečva rivers. This location provides a geographical point of reference, while the exhibition focuses on the history of the castle and its estate.
Hustopeče nad Bečvou Castle has a courtyard, a lapidarium, an art gallery, and museums devoted to butchery, film, and cooking stoves. Access and the individual museums may vary by season. If you plan to visit this castle, check the current visiting arrangements in advance. Hanácká kyselka, a regional food product, is also associated with the wider Přerov area.
Cycling and Walking Routes
The Bečva Cycle Route connects Hustopeče nad Bečvou, Hranice, Lipník nad Bečvou, Přerov and Tovačov. It is intended for cyclists and pedestrians; skaters can also use sections with a suitable surface. When planning, it is therefore important to consider not only your start and end points, but also which modes of transport are suitable for the section you have chosen. Local conditions may also play a role.
The Bečva Cycle Route section between Valašské Meziříčí and Přerov is accessible by train. Bicycles can be carried as luggage or in the luggage compartment; check the transport rules before travelling. This allows you to factor train travel into your cycling trip plans without assuming the same conditions apply to every section.
There are different starting points and routes for walking. You can reach the Hranická Abyss on foot from Teplice nad Bečvou railway station via an educational trail, or from Hranice campsite following the red hiking trail markings. Check the trail markings before setting out. In Přerov, a shortened educational trail runs for about five kilometres and has 11 stops. It is suitable for families with small children. Another five-kilometre route runs from the castle grounds to the banks of the Bečva and the lagoon park; it can be covered with a pushchair or by bicycle. These two route descriptions differ in their course and use, even though both are given as roughly or exactly five kilometres long.
Nature Watching and Parkland
Waterbirds can be observed year-round near the centre of Přerov, at the confluence of the Strhanec and Bečva rivers. The Žebračka Nature Reserve also offers a historical perspective on birdlife: surveys from the late 20th century recorded 139 bird species there, including 79 breeding species. These figures refer to surveys from that period and do not describe a current population survey.
Michalov Park is a cultural monument and a protected landscape feature. Its character includes early 20th-century garden architecture and flowers of the floodplain landscape. Independently of the park's design, a wooden observation point beside a small body of water that is gradually silting up offers the chance to observe birds, amphibians, invertebrates, aquatic plants and typical floodplain trees.
Focusing on museums, walks or a cycling route can help you structure your choice of destination. For routes with stated conditions, check the trail markings or transport rules before finalising your plans.
