Discover Javorník: Jánský Vrch Castle and Hotels
Accommodation in Javornik
If you are looking for a hotel in Javorník, the town’s cultural and historical character offers a clear starting point for planning your trip. Jánský Vrch Castle defines the town, alongside a Baroque church, a town museum, and destinations in the surrounding area. The themes range from the history of a Gothic castle to religious architecture, municipal collections, and cycling. You can make your choice based on whether castle history, church architecture, museum exhibits, or a cycling route is especially important to your stay.
Jánský Vrch Castle
Jánský Vrch Castle stands on a rocky hill above the town and is a landmark of Javorník. Its history began as a Gothic castle called Jawirnik. At the beginning of the 16th century, the complex was converted into a castle and given the name Jánský Vrch. The early castle period and the later name thus represent two distinct stages in its history. Guided tours feature one of the largest collections of pipes in the Czech Republic, as well as the castle’s service rooms. Unique historic gas lighting has been preserved in the interiors and main courtyard.
Church and Town Museum
The Church of the Most Holy Trinity (Kostel Nejsvětější Trojice) can also be viewed through its various building phases. It was built as a Baroque church between 1716 and 1723; its present appearance dates from 1866 and follows the design of the builder Schwarzer. The round Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows was added to the church in 1755. The church building, its present form, and the chapel extension therefore represent different stages, not a single construction date. The town museum focuses on other aspects of local history. Its exhibits include a peasant room, a historic classroom, an armoury, a gendarmerie station, and the town’s detention cells. An exhibition on the history of gasworks traces the use of gas in Javorník from its beginnings to the present day.
Places to Visit Nearby
Nearby attractions include the Rychlebská Ruin, the remains of a Gothic castle whose original name is unknown. It stands on a rocky promontory of the Přilba hill, built in the 13th century, and is now considered a romantic destination for visitors to the Rychleby Mountains. A contrasting landscape can be found at the nearby Čertovy kazatelny: these unique gneiss rocks are carved into the valley of the Račí potok stream. The area around Javorník thus offers both a Gothic castle ruin and gneiss rock formations. Nearby Tančírna invites you to enjoy a café in pleasant surroundings and take in its varied cultural life.
