When looking for a hotel in Hvozd, you can choose the focus of your stay based on whether you are interested in natural landscapes, marked trails or historic buildings. Part of the municipality lies in Kladecko Nature Park; several hiking and cycling routes pass through the area or its surroundings. There are also viewpoints, a natural monument and village landmarks. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between the exact routes and locations: some trails pass through Hvozd, others through the Hvozd planning area or nearby.

Nature and landscapes around Hvozd

Taramka Natural Monument is also part of Kladecko Nature Park. It is home to fragments of Hercynian oak-hornbeam forests, species-rich, calcicolous beech forests, and a mesic meadow of false oat-grass with protected and endangered plant species. The area thus encompasses a variety of forest communities as well as a meadow, offering a specific point of interest for nature lovers.

For a different perspective, visit Stráž Hill, south of Hvozd. Depending on visibility, the most distant places visible from there can be up to 63 kilometres away. The Špraněk flows through the cadastral area of Hvozd in a deeply incised valley, with karst formations nearby. The valley and karst offer a different aspect of the landscape from the expansive view from Stráž.

Hiking trails and cycling route

The blue-marked hiking trail leads from Malé Hradisko via Stražisko and Budětsko through Hvozd to Vojtěchov. The yellow-marked hiking trail runs from Vojtěchov to Javoříčko through the Hvozd planning area. The two routes therefore differ in their relationship to the village: the blue trail explicitly passes through Hvozd, while the yellow one runs through the planning area.

The Špraněk educational trail route passes partly through the Hvozd planning area. Nearby, the five-kilometre Špraněk educational trail forms a loop through Špraněk National Nature Reserve; it begins and ends at the Javoříčko Caves. For cycling, cycling route No. 5277 is a separate option: it runs through the planning area between Milkov and Bohuslavice. The routes mentioned differ in their markings, courses and lengths. As trail conditions and markings may change, it is advisable to check them before setting out.

Buildings and historical connections

The Chapel of St Wenceslas stands in Hvozd’s village square and is classified as a locally significant monument. It resembles a small church and has a slender bell tower; the year 1906 is inscribed above the entrance. A stone cross stands in front of the chapel.

Another example of local architecture is the wayside shrine near House No. 94. This block-shaped shrine has a glazed front niche and is considered an example of small-scale folk architecture from the 18th century. The wayside shrine on the road to Luká is also protected as an immovable cultural monument and is a folk structure dating from the 18th century. The Hvozdecká cesta offers a connection to an even earlier period: it is mentioned in 1279 as a route linking the area of Mohelnice and Litovel with Konice.

Places to visit nearby

The source of the small Pilávka stream lies in a forest between Hvozd and Bohuslavice. A footpath leads to the source from the road from Bohuslavice to Hvozd, about 300 metres along. The approximate distance is useful when planning your visit; you should also take the path conditions into account. According to local legend, a stone statue near Hvozd represents the petrified fairy Pilávka. Along with marked routes, natural attractions and traditional tales are among the points of interest you can use to plan your trip.
