Three themes give your trip planning in Domašov nad Bystřicí a clear direction: the educational trail in the Bystřice Valley, the Ice Age rock formations of Kamenné proudy, and historic and architectural landmarks. This lets you decide in advance whether hiking, natural history, or local history should be the focus of your trip.

Hiking and Climbing

The Údolím Bystřice educational trail is 13.1 kilometers long and open year-round. It runs between the Domašov nad Bystřicí and Hrubá Voda railway stations, alongside the Olomouc–Opava railway line. Near Domašov nad Bystřicí, railway line 310 from Olomouc to Opava runs along the Bystřice Valley.

The educational trail follows field and forest paths that are suitable for hiking. It is only partly suitable for mountain biking. The two activities therefore differ in suitability: hiking is a good fit for the educational trail, while mountain biking is suitable only on parts of the route. Check local conditions before setting out, even though the route is open year-round.

One specific point along the educational trail is Malý Rabštýn. This approximately 40-meter-high rock face lies on the blue-marked hiking trail between Domašov nad Bystřicí and Jívová, and the educational trail also passes it. The rock has 28 secured climbing routes. This gives you a valley route and an individual crag with climbing routes as distinct starting points for planning your trip.

Ice Age Formations in the Valley

Kamenné proudy u Domašova is a natural monument protecting fossil geomorphological features from the last Ice Age. These include frost cliffs, block scree, and block streams formed by frost action during that period. The area is in the Údolí Bystřice Nature Park.

The educational trail introduces the history of the deeply incised valley of the Bystřice River, as well as its natural values and distinctive features. Kamenné proudy adds a specific geological focus: formations created by frost during the last Ice Age. For your planning, this means distinguishing between the longer route, which covers several themes, and the natural monument, whose focus is clearly geological.

Architecture and Local History

The Church of St. Anne is a single-nave, longitudinal building with a polygonal chancel and a hipped roof. On the central axis of the façade is a prism-shaped tower topped by an onion dome, finial, and cross. Its features range from the structure of the building to the design of the tower, giving the church a distinctive architectural character.

The Černý kříž memorial was erected in 1858 to mark the centenary of the Prussian-Austrian Battle of Domašov. It commemorates the rescue of Olomouc by General Laudon’s troops: in 1758, Laudon defeated Prussian troops as they transported supplies from Opava to Olomouc. The dates distinguish the event from its later commemoration: the battle took place in 1758, and the memorial was built in 1858.
