Dlouhá Loučka combines cultural and historical themes with diverse natural landscapes. The castle, church complex and museum tell different chapters of local history; the landscape park and protected habitats complete the picture. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay in Dlouhá Loučka, these highlights can help you plan your trip.

Castle History and Monuments

Dlouhá Loučka Castle was built as a Baroque castle in 1708–1709. It served as the summer residence of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order. During the Napoleonic Wars, the castle was used as a military hospital with 600 beds. Its architectural history, the history of the Order and its later use during wartime thus represent different chapters in its history.

The Church of St. Bartholomew complex has a core dating to the 15th century and was altered later. It includes 19th-century funerary sculptures. A stone cross is also located in the complex today: it was moved there from its former location at the bridge over the Oslava. There is also a monument to the victims of the Napoleonic Wars in Dlouhá Loučka, on the slope below Křivá.

Another historical object is a quartz millstone in front of a local shop. It originally stood in the castle park. Experts believe it may have been used to grind silver ore before smelting. This is one possible interpretation, not a confirmed purpose.

Museum and Visit Planning

The Království historických kočárků is located at Plinkout 41, Dlouhá Loučka 783 86. Its extensive collection includes historical prams and doll’s prams dating from 1860 to 1989; information about the collection may change. The municipal listing was last updated on January 16, 2024. According to that listing, the museum is open on Saturdays from 10:00 to 17:00; visits on other days are possible by prior telephone arrangement. Check the address and opening hours before you travel.

The museum is housed in the second Loučský Castle building, which now contains the municipal office. The museum’s exhibits include salvaged murals left on the walls of the local dilapidated castle by captured French officers during the Second World War. The museum also displays paintings made by French officers in Dlouhá Loučka, including a unique painted plan of the entire castle.

Landscape and Natural Areas

Dlouhá Loučka Castle Park lies at the eastern edge of the village. It is a landscape park enclosed by a perimeter wall. The Sovinecko Nature Park is a separate area: the municipality’s four cadastral districts—Dolní Dlouhá Loučka, Horní Dlouhá Loučka, Křivá and Plinkout—partly extend into the nature park. Parts of Horní Dlouhá Loučka and Křivá also extend into the Sovinec European protected area.

Habitats in the Dlouhá Loučka area include beech and beech-fir forests, riparian vegetation, rocks and standing water, as well as streams in the trout zone. This diversity adds another perspective on the area to the cultural and historical sites. The 23rd Pochod přírodním parkem Sovinecko started and finished in Dlouhá Loučka Castle Park on May 9, 2026. If you are interested in a future edition, check the organizer’s information.

For your trip planning, you can distinguish between local and castle history and nature-related themes, then choose the focus that interests you most.
