Vělopolí is a destination for visitors who want to take the landscape, opportunities for outdoor activities, and historic landmarks into account when choosing where to stay. The landscape, named cycling routes, and local history provide practical guidance when looking for a hotel in Vělopolí. This can help you decide whether nature, cycling, or cultural history is particularly important to you during your stay.

Landscape and rural character

Vělopolí lies in Podbeskydí, a hilly foothill landscape, away from the main transport routes. The Vělopolka stream is a tributary of the Ropičanka. Higher parts of Vělopolí offer views of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids. Small agricultural holdings remain part of the foothills' rural character. A protected lime tree is believed to be around 400 years old. Together, the views, farmsteads, and lime tree offer different insights into the character of the landscape—from views of the Beskids to individual features of the village.

Walks, hikes, and cycling routes

The surrounding area invites you to go for walks and hikes. Two routes are named for cyclists: local cycling route No. 6089 between Ropice and Komorní Lhotka is marked in Vělopolí. Long-distance cycling route No. 56 passes through Vělopolí and runs between Smilovice-Střítež and Těrlicko-Horní Bludovice. This means a locally designated route and a long-distance cycling route passing through the village provide two distinct points of reference. On foot, you can focus on the surroundings; when cycling, route numbers and named sections help with navigation. If you plan to use a route, check the current signage on site.

Local history and cultural landmarks

The first written mention of the Vělopolí estate dates from 1448. This refers to the mention of the estate and is not necessarily the founding date of the present-day village. The rural farmstead at No. 7 dates from 1887. A group of Empire-style sculptures in Vělopolí is probably attributed to the second quarter of the 19th century. The group originally formed part of the furnishings of the chateau park in Hnojník.

The years 1448 and 1887 refer to different historical points of reference: the estate and the farmstead. By contrast, the dating of the group of sculptures is explicitly described as probable. Its former connection to the chateau park in Hnojník adds another historical context to its local significance. The period spans from the 15th-century estate to the farmstead dating from 1887.

Community life

The Vělopolské slavnosti have already been held for the second time and have become an established part of community and local association life. If you would like to include a future edition in your travel plans, check the date in the community calendar.
