Stará Ves: Forests, Hiking and Village History
Accommodation in Stará Ves
There are several ways to plan a stay in Stará Ves: summer hiking, winter sports or historic village culture. If you are looking for a hotel, this distinction can help with your initial trip planning: consider which activity or connection to the area matters most to you. This lets you plan your trip around the focus you want.
Landscape and Hiking
The entire cadastral area of Stará Ves lies within the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area, and more than 80 percent of the area is covered by forests. For nature-focused trip planning, both the protected-area setting and the extensive forest cover are worth considering. In summer, Stará Ves and its surroundings are suitable for hiking. Stará Ves is also a possible starting point for the ascent to Jelení studánka. This offers both broader hiking opportunities in the municipality and its surroundings and a specific ascent destination. If you are planning the ascent, check the route conditions beforehand; they may change.
Winter Activities: Downhill and Cross-Country Skiing
Winter activities can be divided into alpine downhill skiing and cross-country skiing. Below Anenská Huť, there is a downhill slope that can be used for alpine skiing. For cross-country skiing, the municipality is involved in expanding and maintaining the trails. This includes new routes and structures with bridges and culverts; a piste basher maintains the trails. The downhill slope is located below Anenská Huť, while the expansion and maintenance work concerns the cross-country trails. As route details may change, check the current trail routes before planning your trip.
Village Conservation Area and Historic Buildings
The Žďárský Potok village conservation area in Stará Ves preserves the buildings of a Jeseníky village dating from the 17th century. Timber buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries have also been preserved in the area. This brings together a historic settlement and specific architectural forms: the village buildings date from the 17th century, while the preserved timber buildings are from two later centuries. A Baroque statue of St. John of Nepomuk from the late 18th century also stands on Potočná Street; it has been extensively restored. The conservation area focuses on the village layout and architectural forms, while the statue is a single work of art. If you are interested in architecture or regional history, you can focus your trip on these different scales.
Getting There and Trip Planning
Stará Ves is served by the Šumperk–Ostrava bus route. If you are planning to travel by bus, check the timetable separately for your travel dates. The activities for choosing between a summer and winter stay are clearly distinct: hiking is a summer activity, while alpine downhill and cross-country skiing are winter options. The historic village layout and the statue add a cultural and historical dimension.
