Staré Heřminovy: Landscape and Local History
Accommodation in Staré Heřminovy
Staré Heřminovy lies in the Nízký Jeseník. The Stará Voda stream flows through the village; the houses stand in two rows on either side of the stream in a sunny valley. The area also has historical milestones, from its founding in the 13th century to its reconstruction around 1521. Together, the landscape, settlement pattern and history offer concrete points to consider when deciding whether the village suits your trip.
Stream, Valley and Cycling Route
The watercourse and buildings shape the village’s character together: the rows of houses lie on both sides of the stream, and the valley is described as sunny. These features give you a more detailed picture of Staré Heřminovy than a place name alone. Its location in the Nízký Jeseník also provides a regional point of reference.
Cycling route 6164 also passes through Staré Heřminovy. The route as a whole runs 29 km from Leskovec nad Moravicí to Holasovice. The 29 km refers to the entire route between these places, not just the section through Staré Heřminovy. If you include the route in your travel plans, this distinction helps you tell the village section apart from the total distance.
Founding and Reconstruction
Staré Heřminovy was founded in 1253 and was one of the monastic villages established in the area around Benešov. A later turning point came in 1474, when the village was burned down. Around 1521, settlers from South Silesia and Brandenburg rebuilt the destroyed village. The approximate date of the reconstruction is part of its history, just as the specific year of the destruction is.
The local historical landmarks extend beyond these events. In a small village park, a war memorial erected in 1920 stands by the cemetery wall. The Czechs Chapel is also one of the chapels in Staré Heřminovy. Together with the dates of the village’s founding and reconstruction, these named places provide concrete points of reference for its history.
The Church of St. Wenceslas has a still-functioning tower clock dating from 1885. If the clock is relevant to your travel plans, check its condition in person. This helps distinguish the historical information about its year of construction from its current working condition.
Sandlerův mlýn is also part of the village’s history. The historic mill stood at a crossroads of regional roads; later, the younger son Fritz had a water turbine built there. This links a specific location with a later technical addition.
Finding Your Way Around the Village Centre
In the village centre, there is a bus stop and a grocery store in front of the cultural centre. The centre also includes the municipal office, church, fire station and an inn. Here you will find places for transport, shopping, administration and dining, as well as the church and fire station.
Cultural and social events in Staré Heřminovy include a competition for young firefighters. If you would like to plan your visit around this event, check the date before you travel.
