The village has several dated buildings, as well as the Nová Ves lookout tower and a 36.3-kilometre circular cycling route. These attractions lend themselves to different kinds of trip planning.

Cultural History and Buildings

The history of DolnĂ Moravice is documented as far back as 1258. The filial Church of St James the Greater dates from 1795; its presbytery is Renaissance in style, and its tower dates back to 1593. The church therefore brings together several different historical periods: the year it was built, the Renaissance period of the presbytery and the earlier date of the tower.

At the centre stands a Baroque sandstone column depicting the Holy Trinity. Dating from 1752, it is considered a particularly distinctive work in the region in terms of both iconography and type. Iconography describes what is depicted, while typology refers to the work’s particular classification. The subject and type of the artwork therefore complement its date of creation as points of reference for art-historical classification.

On the southern edge of DolnĂ Moravice stands a Baroque sandstone statue of the Immaculata on a tall column, dated to 1764. It has not been attributed to an artist. Compared with the Holy Trinity column, the two religious artworks have different subjects, locations and dates.

A stone road bridge in DolnĂ Moravice crosses the Moravice on two arches. Its distinctive feature is its noticeably rising roadway, a characteristic of bridges of the so-called Swedish type. The structure can therefore be classified not only by its material and arch shape, but also by the distinctive line of its roadway.

Landscape and Views

Dolní Moravice lies within the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area. Another local point of reference is Moravická kyselka: near the village square and the road from Rýmařov to Karlova Studánka, a shelter covers the spring beside the Moravice River. The river, village square and road indicate the location without prescribing a particular route for visitors.

The Nová Ves lookout tower is 31.3 metres high and was built in 2014. It offers three views of the Hrubý Jeseník ridge. This combines a specific vantage point with a named feature of the mountain landscape; the number of views and the tower’s height give it a distinct profile alongside the historic buildings.

Cycling the Circular Route

The Dolní Moravice–Nová Ves–Valšov circular cycling route and back is 36.3 kilometres long. Unlike the individual buildings, it is a circular tour through three named places. Its length makes it a clearly defined part of trip planning for anyone choosing cycling as the focus of their stay.

The route is directly accessible from Dolní Moravice. Buses carrying bicycles stop there during the summer season. Before setting out, check the buses’ current operating schedule as well as road and trail conditions, so you can factor this seasonal connection and the tour into your plans.
