Dětmarovice brings together a range of architectural and commemorative traces dating from 1447 to 2012. The church, chapel, wayside cross, war memorial, fortification structure, windmill and memorial trees each have their own significance. When planning your trip, it helps to distinguish between these themes: religious buildings, industrial history and places of remembrance each offer a different focus.

Church and Chapel

The Kostel sv. Maří Magdalény church is a single-nave building in the Neo-Romanesque style, dating from 1870. It stands on the site of an original wooden church dating from 1447. The two dates refer to different building phases at the same site: 1447 refers to the wooden church, while 1870 refers to the single-nave Neo-Romanesque church. The building is registered as a Czech cultural monument under registration number 104132. This makes it possible to distinguish chronologically between the older church site and the later building form.

Něbrojova kaple dates from 1860 and is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Dětmarovice. An archival record from 1866 documents permission to hold Mass twice a year: on St Mark’s Day and St Isidore’s Day. In addition to the year it was built, this historical permission provides a distinct liturgical point of reference for the chapel.

Wayside Cross, Remembrance and Fortification

Bendův kříž is considered the oldest surviving wayside or field cross in Dětmarovice and was renovated in 2004. The memorial to the victims of the Second World War in Dětmarovice dates from the 1950s. The two places of remembrance can be distinguished by different features: the cross by its status among the surviving crosses and its renovation, and the memorial by its connection to the victims of war and the period in which it was created.

Another trace of contemporary history is the only well-preserved bunker in the municipality of Dětmarovice. It is a light fortification structure dating from 1937, known as a řopík. Thus, a pre-war fortification structure and a memorial from the 1950s represent different historical points of reference.

Memorial Trees and Mills

Trees are also part of the local cultural heritage. A group of five memorial trees stands at Bendův usedlost: two pedunculate oaks and three small-leaved limes. The group is notable for its number of trees and their species, offering a different aspect from the church, chapel and industrial structures.

Two references to mills offer different insights into the area’s industrial history. Větřák is one of the last surviving windmills in Dětmarovice and the only one that remains at its original site. Kempného mlýn has a replica dating from 2012. Větřák’s distinctive feature is its preservation at its original site, while Kempného mlýn is notable for its replica.
