If you are looking for a hotel in Chotěbuz, the themes of your trip can help narrow down your options: the Chotěbuz-Podobora archaeological site and the Archeopark focus on early history and a reconstructed hillfort. The Museum of Light Fortifications and the Hláska u zámku offer further historical perspectives. Cycling routes and activities at Stáj U Luka provide a different focus. You can consider whether you want your stay to be mainly cultural and historical or also active.

Archaeological Site and Archeopark

The Chotěbuz-Podobora archaeological site is one of the most significant prehistoric and early medieval monuments in Cieszyn Silesia. It lies on a river terrace where a large, three-part hillfort once stood. The Olše originally flowed below the site.

The Chotěbuz-Podobora Archeopark draws on this historical connection through its reconstructions. These include fortifications, period dwellings, production facilities, a cult object and an ironworking furnace. Interactive exhibitions explore the local archaeological site. A ceramics workshop with a kiln and potter’s wheel is used for various school and public events. The Archeopark thus brings together the reconstructed site, exhibitions and a workshop that explore different aspects of the area.

Light Fortifications and Medieval Tower

The Muzeum Československého lehkého opevnění Chotěbuz comprises three reconstructed Type vz. 37 light fortification structures. Each illustrates a different historical period. Alongside the former hillfort, these provide a focus on other tangible fortification structures.

Another architectural landmark is the Hláska u zámku: the cylindrical stone tower is about 10 metres high and is the last surviving remnant of Chotěbuz’s Gothic fortifications from the 13th and 14th centuries. For interested visitors, as well as school visits and excursions, the museum can also arrange other times by prior agreement. Confirm the agreed time before travelling.
