Habakladrau (Ovesné Kladruby) lies at the foot of Podhorní vrch. Nature and local history offer different starting points for planning your trip: you can explore the moorland and nearby natural attractions, or learn about the village’s buildings and memorial sites. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first consider which of these interests is most important for your stay.

Moorland and Podhorní vrch

Podhorní vrch is 847 metres high and is considered the highest mountain in the Tepelská vrchovina. Geologically, it is an extinct volcano. Near Ovesné Kladruby lies the PP Podhorní slatě natural monument. It is home to some of the best-preserved complexes of wetland and moorland vegetation in the CHKO Slavkovský les. Several orchids, wood lousewort and the rare marsh lousewort are among the plants found in the area; numerous protected bird and butterfly species also live there.

A route to PP Podhorní slatě designated by AOPK starts at Ovesné Kladruby railway station and is about four kilometres long. The approximate distance is a useful guide for planning. Check current route conditions before setting out.

The Milhostovské mofety

Another natural attraction is the Milhostovské mofety, located in the cadastral area of the municipality of Ovesné Kladruby. They can be reached via a 2.5-kilometre local route marked in yellow. The mofety are a protected natural monument safeguarding sulphurous gas emissions. Their circular craters are usually no more than 0.5 metres deep, and sulphurous gases emerge from them. Follow local safety instructions. As conditions in the area may change, it is advisable to check the situation along the route before your visit.

The two natural attractions offer different perspectives: PP Podhorní slatě is notable for its wetland and moorland vegetation and protected species, while the Milhostovské mofety are distinguished by their geological craters and gas emissions. The route distances also differ: about four kilometres to PP and 2.5 kilometres along the local route to the mofety. This lets you consider the attractions separately when planning, without treating their routes as one and the same.

Church, rectory and local history

Ovesné Kladruby is first mentioned as a parish centre in 1242. St Lawrence’s Church was remodelled into its present form in 1747–1748. It is a single-nave Baroque church with a rectangular floor plan and a prismatic tower. It stands on the site of an older religious building that burned down. The building’s history thus links an early indication of the village’s ecclesiastical importance with the church’s later appearance.

The rectory is another notable building in the village’s history. The one-storey building was erected in 1830 by Antonín Thurner from Teplá Monastery, modelled on Baroque farmyards. The rural estate known as “Venkovská usedlost” dates from the third quarter of the 19th century and is an exceptional example of a rural residence with an arcade. The two buildings illustrate different forms of 19th-century rural architecture.

Memorial sites and travel planning

The war memorial commemorates those who fell in the First World War. Its original inscription has been restored; plaques bear the names of the fallen, and the eagle sculpture is back in place. The wayside cross on the road from Ovesné Kladruby to Mrázov offers a different, more modest memorial: it has neither an inscription nor a relief. The village school also served the communities of Milhostov and Vysočany and had three classes with 120 pupils.

This gives you a clear basis for choosing the focus of your trip: moorland vegetation, protected species and geological features, or the village’s architectural and commemorative history. The natural attractions and historic buildings offer different themes that you can take into account according to your interests when planning your stay in Habakladrau.
