Lázně Kynžvart: Castle Park, Spa Springs and History
Accommodation in Lázně Kynžvart
Lázně Kynžvart can be explored through several themes: the castle park, paths to springs and historic buildings. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, it helps to first consider which of these interests will shape your trip.
Castle Park and Park Visits
Kynžvart Castle Park is a spacious English landscape park. It covers 293 hectares, 245 hectares of which are managed by the castle. These figures convey the scale of the grounds, but you do not need to plan a visit to the entire park.
The castle park can be visited independently throughout the year and at any time of day. For current planning, it is advisable to check the visitor information. One special feature in the park is the 1.3-kilometre bat nature trail. It is designed as a virtual game for mobile devices and was established in 2016. If you would like to use the game, check its current digital availability in advance.
Nature Trails and Springs
Another path leads to the Liščí Springs. They are located on the Kynžvartské kyselky nature trail and are enclosed by two square wooden structures. The trail lies in the Slavkovský les Protected Landscape Area. It starts 1.5 kilometres southeast of Lázně Kynžvart, on a side road in the direction of Valy.
The two trails have different points of reference: the bat nature trail is in the castle park and is 1.3 kilometres long. The entrance to the Kynžvartské kyselky nature trail, by contrast, is 1.5 kilometres southeast of the town. When planning, this helps you distinguish the length of one trail from the location of the entrance to the other.
Richard Spring is another option in the spa park: its water can be drawn at the drinking pavilion in the middle of the park. As current availability should be checked on site, it is worth checking local information before your visit. The two spring destinations are therefore different: at the Liščí Springs, the wooden enclosures on the nature trail are a notable feature; water from Richard Spring is drawn at the drinking pavilion.
Building History and Historic Sites
The Church of St. Margaret was rebuilt after the fire of 1865. Construction began in 1869, and the church was consecrated in 1870. The Marian Column stands in the square in the lower part of the park. It bears a stone Madonna and Child; the Baroque statue dates from 1709. The column and statue should be distinguished: the date refers to the Madonna and Child.
Kynžvart Castle is a Neoclassical summer residence associated with the Metternich family. Along with the Baroque statue and the church rebuilt in the 19th century, it offers a range of historical connections in Lázně Kynžvart. The ruins of Kynžvart Castle above the town add to the area’s history. The best way to reach the romantic ruins is on foot via a forest path.
Walking and Cycling Routes
For cyclists, Cycle Route 2253 is another point of reference. It connects the starting point of the cycling routes at the cemetery in Mariánské Lázně with Lázně Kynžvart railway station. The railway station is marked as kilometre point 0. In addition to the nature trails and the forest path to the castle ruins, cycling routes therefore offer another distinct focus for planning your trip.
The described destinations lead to different points of interest on foot: the bat nature trail is in the castle park, the Kynžvartské kyselky nature trail starts southeast of the town, and the best way to the castle ruins is via a forest path. Cycle Route 2253, by contrast, connects a starting point in Mariánské Lázně with the railway station in Lázně Kynžvart. These differences can help you plan your stay around the routes and places you would like to visit.
