Thurn (Tuřany) can be considered from several perspectives when planning a trip: a regional bus route, Cycling Route 604, and architectural and cultural history. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Thurn, it helps to first consider whether cycling, historic architecture or regional traditions should shape your stay. The following features offer specific points of reference.

Getting there and cycling route

Regional bus route 410110 connects Tuřany with Cheb and Sokolov. It runs via Nebanice, Odrava, Okrouhlá, Kynšperk nad Ohří and Libavské Údolí. It is best to check the current timetable in advance if you plan to travel on this route.

For cyclists, the long-distance Cycling Route 604 offers a specific way to explore the area. It is 28 kilometres long, classified as easy and suitable for road bikes. Its length, difficulty rating and suitability for a particular type of bicycle are separate points of reference when planning your ride. The route runs through the valley of the Šitbořský potok in the Cheb Basin, passes through Tuřany and continues to a farmstead known as Tuřany statek. It lies approximately one kilometre beyond the village. The route description therefore includes both a landscape and the route through the village, as well as a named destination beyond Tuřany.

Farmsteads and architectural history

Farmstead No. 3 in Tuřany is dated to 1854 and retains the four basic components of a Cheb farmhouse: a dwelling, granary, barn and stables. This layout makes the property easy to understand as an ensemble: alongside the living quarters are buildings for storage and agricultural purposes. The residential section is also architecturally distinctive. Its ground floor is built using log construction, with a half-timbered upper storey above. The richly patterned, chequerboard-like gable adds another decorative accent. Thus, alongside the farmstead’s age, the focus is on its overall layout and on the construction and design of the residential section.

A different property is Farmstead No. 1 in Lipoltov, in the municipality of Tuřany. It is listed as an immovable cultural monument under registration number 17495/4-147. The numbers and place names help distinguish the two farmsteads: No. 3 is in Tuřany and is dated to 1854; No. 1 is in Lipoltov and is associated with the aforementioned heritage register entry. This provides a clear basis for comparing a dated Cheb farmhouse ensemble with a registered cultural monument as part of exploring architectural history.

Chapel and regional traditions

The chapel in Tuřany is also among the oldest and most interesting monuments in the village. It dates from before 1782. This religious building has a rectangular floor plan and a three-sided termination at the west end. Its architectural description thus differs from that of Farmstead No. 3: for the chapel, the focus is on its floor plan and western termination; for the farmstead, it is on the layout of its various buildings and the construction of the residential section.

In Tuřany, revived Masopust processions are part of the traditional folk culture of the Karlovy Vary Region. They add a different cultural focus to the architectural history: here, regional customs take centre stage rather than buildings and architectural forms. If the processions are important to your travel plans, check the event dates.
