When visiting Hohendorf - Abaschin, landscape and local history go hand in hand. Zádub-Závišín lies within the Slavkovský les Protected Landscape Area. A spa trail runs through the Slavkovský les via the village and continues to the distinctive Podhorní vrch. Cycle Route 2284 offers another perspective on the area: it reaches Zádub via a field track and continues from there along a cycle path to Závišín. Also of interest are the former Hohendörfer Höhe café and a protected cultural heritage site on Závišín’s village green. You can plan your trip around the landscape, cycling connections, or local history.

Landscape and Summit

Podhorní vrch is the highest peak in the Tepelská vrchovina. It has two summits offering views of the surrounding landscape. The mountain is also an extinct volcano and has been a nature reserve since 1997. These features give the route destination a more concrete character: the spa trail leads toward a distinctive mountain whose summits, views, and protected status each define the landscape in a different way.

Comparing Hiking and Cycling

The spa trail runs through the Slavkovský les, passes through Zádub-Závišín, and continues to Podhorní vrch. Cycle Route 2284, by contrast, describes the connection between Zádub and Závišín in greater detail: first, it reaches Zádub via a field track; from there, a cycle path continues to Závišín. These offer different points of reference for planning a trip. The spa trail focuses on its route through the Slavkovský les and its continuation to the mountain, while the cycle route highlights the connection between the two parts of the village. This makes it possible to consider each option according to its own route without combining them into a single trail.

Local History in Zádub and Závišín

The former Hohendörfer Höhe café stood on the Zádubská výšina in the cadastral area of Zádub. The building has not survived. Historically, the café was a destination for walks taken by the first spa guests. Its history therefore differs from that of a preserved monument: the site is associated with a former use, while the café building itself no longer exists.

The Reconciliation Cross, known as the Smírčí kříž in Závišín, is listed as a protected cultural heritage site. It was originally found in a roadside ditch on the road to Milhostov. After restoration, it was moved to the village green. There, the cross stands in a triangular park opposite the war memorial. Its findspot and present location are both part of its history: the stone memorial was discovered elsewhere and later brought to the village green. Together with its protected status, this makes it a tangible point of reference for the local history of Závišín.

The location of the Royal Golf Club Mariánské Lázně is also relevant to the area: part of the nearby golf course extends into the cadastral area of Zádub-Závišín.
