Marienbad (Mariánské Lázně) is one of eleven European spa towns included in the serial UNESCO World Heritage Site “The Great Spa Towns of Europe”. Springs, spa architecture, park paths and cultural venues offer different ways to shape your stay. You can plan your visit around your particular interest in the town’s spa history, trails through the surrounding forests, or cultural and seasonal programmes.

Mineral springs and spa town history

More than 100 mineral springs rise in the immediate vicinity of Marienbad; around 40 are in the town itself. You can explore the springs on the city’s regular guided tours with commentary. Dates may vary: check the current times if you want to make firm plans to join a tour.

The Hlavní lázeňská kolonáda, also known as the Maxima Gorkého Colonnade, is a landmark of Marienbad and a historic monument to Czech spa culture. It was built in 1888–1889 in the Neo-Baroque style as a cast-iron structure. Its construction period, style and design provide concrete points of reference if you are interested in the spa town’s architecture.

The colonnade is step-free and has public toilets, including an accessible toilet. If access or these facilities are important for your visit, check their current status in advance.

Parks and trails

The Příroda parků nature trail runs mostly along the Úšovický potok. It starts above the Alexandřin pramen, passes the Ferdinandův pramen and ends at the Úšovický potok below the Prelát area. The stream and springs provide the trail’s named landmarks.

Well-maintained hiking trails lead from the colonnade through the surrounding spa forests to viewpoints, natural areas and stony paths. The routes described therefore offer different kinds of experiences: the nature trail focuses on the stream and sequence of springs, while the hiking trails take in landscape destinations and also include stony sections.

Cultural venues and seasonal experiences

Dům Chopin regularly hosts cultural programmes, including concerts, lectures, workshops, exhibitions and film screenings. The Památník Fryderyka Chopina is a museum in Dům Chopin on Hlavní třída, dedicated to the composer’s stay in Bohemia. The house thus connects the Chopin theme with a changing programme of different cultural events. If you want to attend a particular event, check the current dates.

On the eastern edge of Marienbad, Boheminium Park offers an educational walk featuring scale models of notable Czech architectural and technological monuments at a scale of 1:25. The uniform scale gives the models a shared point of reference along the route.

Přírodní park u Prelátova pramene offers children a fire pit, an obstacle course, climbing frames and other attractions. If any of the facilities are important to your plans, check their current condition before your visit.

The seasonal offerings also vary: during the season, the Zpívající fontána plays music and features projections with coloured lighting. In summer, a music pavilion in Park u Lesního pramene serves as a café and a venue for musical performances. If you want to plan around a particular performance, check the current dates, as the programme and operating details may change.
