When planning your trip to Kohlhau, you can distinguish between two themes: the local history surrounding the Kolovská chapel and marked hiking and cycling routes through Kolová. If you are looking for a hotel, these interests can help you plan your trip and compare specific offers.

Local History and the Kolovská Chapel

Kolová was first mentioned in 1622. The historical name “Kohlhau” refers to a clearing made by charcoal burners. One notable testament to the village’s history is the Kolovská chapel of Saint Anne, built in 1873 by a local resident, Neuerer. In 1930, the chapel was remodelled, repaired and extended. The altar, with a painting of Saint Anne, was also restored during this work.

From 1930 onwards, Masses were held in the chapel on Saint Anne’s feast day, and pilgrimages were also held. The municipality repaired the chapel in 1996, and it was reconsecrated in October 2005. The chapel’s exterior areas are open to visitors. Check local access arrangements before visiting.

Park Between the Chapel and the School

Between the chapel and the school is a landscaped park with a wooden pavilion and several benches. This offers another specific place to include in your plans alongside a visit to the chapel. The description of the park’s immediate surroundings is particularly helpful if you want to explore the local history and chapel together.

Hiking Trails and Cycling Routes

Two marked long-distance hiking trails pass through Kolová and continue towards Pila, but follow different routes. The blue-marked route comes from Vítkův vrch. The red-marked route runs from Březová through the Cínový potok valley to Kolová. This lets you distinguish the two trails by their stated starting points and sections. Routes may change; check the current markings before setting out on a hike.

Two cycling routes also offer different points of reference for planning a ride. Marked cycle route 2288 runs from Gejzír Park through the forests below Vítkův vrch, through Kolová and onwards towards Pila. National cycle route 39 passes via Kolovský rybník through Kolová and also continues towards Pila. Check the current markings for route 2288. For route 39, it is advisable to check the current road surface and signage before setting off.

Landscape and Golf

Most of Kolová’s administrative area lies within the Slavkov Forest Protected Landscape Area. This broader setting adds a natural dimension to the routes through the village. The Golf Club Háje course is located in the state-protected Slavkov Forest. The club’s address is Háje 89, Kolová, 360 01 Karlovy Vary. Check current access arrangements before travelling there.
