Slatina Nad Zdobnicí brings together local history, church art and natural features along several distinct routes. Highlights range from a Baroque church and its furnishings to a protected slope and a geological site with specific access information.

Church, Bell and Gallery

The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord was consecrated in 1699. This spacious Baroque building of stone and brick was built by František Adam z Bubna. Inside is an ornately carved Baroque wooden altar dating from around 1701; its creator is unknown. The two dates refer to different details: the consecration of the church and the approximate creation date of the altar. A large church bell dating from 1523 is considered Slatina Nad Zdobnicí’s oldest monument.

The local gallery displays paintings by many well-known artists who also worked in the region. Its history is linked to the cultural club of the local agricultural cooperative: Professor Holý and teacher Alois Krčmář supported its founding. Holý lent works or helped acquire them. These included works by leading visual artists from the second half of the 19th century and the 20th century. Together with the church, the gallery forms a cultural focal point encompassing both architecture and visual art.

Natural Features and Access

The Ve Slatinské stráni Nature Reserve protects marl slopes with warmth-loving flora, including the lady’s slipper orchid. Another landscape feature is the Slatina nad Zdobnicí–Vápenka geological site. It lies west of the municipality on a wooded slope above the Zdobnice River; there are several springs and travertine deposits there.

Access information is important when planning a visit to the geological site: access is through pathless terrain, and the site is more than 250 metres from the road. If you include it in your plans, take both points into account. The nature reserve and geological site represent different aspects of nature: warmth-loving flora on marl slopes in one case, and springs and travertine on a wooded slope in the other.

Cycling Route, Route Descriptions and Rail

Cycling Route 4075 runs from Vamberk through Slatina Nad Zdobnicí to Říčky in the Orlické Mountains. A route description from 2009 classifies it as a moderately difficult, 34.4-kilometre trekking cycling route. Please check the current route conditions before setting out. This keeps the stated distance, bike type and difficulty rating distinct from the conditions on any particular ride.

The route “Po stopách českých krajinářů” runs from Slatina Nad Zdobnicí railway station through Rybná nad Zdobnicí, the area above the Rybná stop, Javornice, Zadní Ochoz, Nebeská Rybná and the bridge in Hamernice, before returning to the station. It is 28.5 kilometres long. The two route descriptions answer different planning questions: Route 4075 highlights the trekking bike, distance and difficulty rating, while “Po stopách českých krajinářů” provides a detailed itinerary with named places.

A railway line from Rokytnice v Orlických horách to Doudleby nad Orlicí also runs through Slatina Nad Zdobnicí. There it connects to the Prague–Letohrad line. Please check the timetable for your travel date for specific departures.

Historic Route Through the Region

A historic route known as the King’s Road in the Middle Ages ran through Slatina Nad Zdobnicí. It passed through the Zdobnice Valley, then the valley of the Slatinský potok stream and the Suchá Forest, continuing via Kunvald to Silesia. The route is therefore a historic alignment, not information about a present-day route.

Finds along this historic route also point to different periods. Objects from the Bronze Age were found in Slatina Nad Zdobnicí during railway construction work. Gold and silver coins from the 13th and 14th centuries were also unearthed along the route. These archaeological finds add evidence of earlier periods to the town’s history.
