Pěčín can be explored through several distinct themes: the settlement in the valley of the Pěčínský potok, notable viewpoints, the church building and cycling information. This lets you get to know the village through specific interests in landscape, culture and activities.

Valley Scenery and Viewpoints

Most of the houses in Pěčín are located in the valley of the Pěčínský potok; on the valley slopes, the buildings become more scattered and give way to isolated properties. The road near house No. 15 offers a panorama of the deep, wooded valley of the stream and the Zdobnice. Okresní skála offers a different view: of the central part of Pěčín, with its school and church. The two viewpoints differ in what they focus on: the panorama near house No. 15 looks out over the wooded valley, while Okresní skála overlooks the central settlement area with its school and church. Around Pěčín, a zone of the Orlické hory Protected Landscape Area includes continuous areas of arable land and orchards. These continuous areas of arable land and orchards highlight the agricultural character of this protected-area zone.

Church Architecture and Archaeological History

Kostel Narození sv. Jana Křtitele was built from 1727 to 1729 by Jan Kumper, a master builder from Hradec Králové. The church is an oriented, single-nave plastered masonry building with a rectangular nave, a presbytery closed on three sides and a four-storey square tower in front of the west façade. The nave is the elongated main part of the church building; the presbytery is the choir area and here it has a three-sided end. The tower in front of the west façade is square and four storeys high. These terms distinguish the overall plan from individual building components and help to put the architecture into context.

The ruins of Pěčín Castle are also classified as a significant archaeological site. This is a different cultural-historical perspective from the detailed architectural form of the church: the castle is notable for the archaeological importance of its ruins, while the church is notable for its construction date, its builder and its architecture.

Cycling and Route Planning

The Litice–Orlické Záhoří cycling route is 38.5 km long and classified as challenging. The junction Pěčín, rozc. is listed on marked cycling route 4075 from Litice to Orlické Záhoří. This information helps with different planning questions: the distance and classification give you an initial idea of the type of ride; the junction name identifies a specific point on route 4075. When weighing up the route, therefore, it is not just the distance that matters, but also its challenging classification. Trail surfaces and access conditions can change, so check current route conditions before setting out.
