Discover Podbřezí
Accommodation in Podbřezí
Historical sites, a protected woodland habitat, and events organized by the SK Skalka club are among the defining features of a trip to Podbřezí.
Skalecký háj Nature Reserve
Skalecký háj Nature Reserve is made up of a preserved mixed oak and hornbeam forest with a diverse community of protected species. The protected Turk’s cap lily and spotted arum each grow there in stands of many hundreds of plants. The mixed forest describes the habitat, while the two named plants draw attention to the flora. So, if you give nature greater weight than local history when planning your trip, the reserve offers both a woodland and a botanical connection.
Skalka Castle and Its History
A fortress with outbuildings has been documented at the site of today’s Skalka Castle since the early 14th century. Skalka State Castle is a registered immovable cultural monument in the cadastral area of Podbřezí. The site therefore offers two historical perspectives: its early use and its present-day status as a cultural monument. For visitors interested in cultural history, both the site’s history and its current monument status offer a point of interest.
Jewish Cemetery and Educational Trail
The Jewish cemetery near Skalka was founded at the end of the 17th century and contains 92 tombstones. The cemetery is freely accessible; check access again before your arrival. The Zlatý potok educational trail introduces you to the municipality of Podbřezí’s main historical monuments, as well as Skalka Castle and the Jewish forest cemetery. The cemetery is one individual historic site, while the trail offers a broader overview of the monuments.
Finding Your Way Along the Zlatý potok
The Zlatý potok is a shared point of reference for nature and culture enthusiasts: you can reach the Jewish cemetery via a footpath along the stream, and on a hike along the Zlatý potok in Podbřezí, you can visit Skalecký háj Nature Reserve. The stream is therefore relevant both for exploring cultural history and for a nature-focused hike.
Events Throughout the Year
SK Skalka’s annual program includes more than ten events with fixed dates, mostly sports tournaments for adults and children. In spring, the club traditionally hosts rock performances attended by people from Podbřezí and surrounding villages and towns. Every June, SK Skalka holds an open-air disco and rock event at the sports ground, with unusual competitions for visitors. Before Easter, the club traditionally holds a schnapps tasting, where locals sample and rate their neighbors’ offerings. This provides several different seasonal reference points for planning a trip: spring, June, and the period before Easter. If you are traveling for a particular event, check the exact date in advance.
