Anyone looking for a hotel in Rokytňany can tailor their stay to a range of interests: historical traces in Dolní Rokytňany, the protected habitats of Dymokursko, or castles nearby. Local history, nature and cultural attractions offer different starting points for planning your trip.

Historical Traces in Dolní Rokytňany

The first written mention of Dolní Rokytňany dates back to 1381. Archaeological finds point to settlement dating from around the end of the 14th century. In the mid-16th century, the place was known as Velké Rokytňany. The finds include denarii from the first third of the 13th century and Prague groschen from the 15th century. The written mention and the archaeological assessment provide different chronological markers: while the former gives an exact year, the latter dates the start of settlement only approximately. Archaeological finds also suggest that a historically significant road to Central Bohemia ran through Dolní Rokytňany.

Specific cultural monuments include a sandstone cross dating from 1868 and a column with a statue of Christ crucified. The column stands in Dolní Rokytňany and is listed under registration number 52195/6-6305 in the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic. Here, you can therefore encounter both a monument with a known date and a listed cultural monument with a specific registration number.

Dymokursko and Rokytňanský Pond

The Dymokursko Site of Community Importance (code CZ0210101) includes the cadastral area of Dolní Rokytňany. The Dymokursko Natura 2000 site extends into the southern edge of the Rokytňany planning area. The information therefore refers to two different spatial scales: the cadastral area and the southern edge of the planning area. Protected habitats include alluvial forests, oak-hornbeam forests, old acidophilous oak forests and Euro-Siberian steppe oak forests, as well as standing waters and extensively mown meadows.

Rokytňanský Pond is one of the bodies of water in the Rokytňany planning area. A bittern (Botaurus stellaris) brood was documented at the pond in Dolní Rokytňany in 1988. The year places this bird observation in its historical context.
