Discover Mlázovice: History and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Mlázovice
Mlázovice brings together market and church history, hiking trails and a landscape on the western edge of the Podzvičinsko Basin. The square features historic landmarks from different centuries; information boards on many houses offer further insight into the town. For nature lovers, the blue-marked hiking trail from Mlázovice and the paths in the Mezihoří district offer different points of interest from the historic sites.
Market Square, Church and Spa History
The square has a regular rectangular layout dating back to 1540. That year, Mlázovice was granted market-town status, the right to hold fairs and a coat of arms. The shape of the square is thus linked to an important milestone in the town’s history. A Marian column from the Hořice School of Sculpture was erected in its centre in 1901. An obelisk commemorating the victims of the First World War was erected in the square in 1928. Information boards on many houses describe the history of the town and the individual buildings.
The Church of the Holy Trinity is a protected cultural monument and a branch church; it was formerly a parish church. In 1725, it was rebuilt on the site of a wooden church first mentioned in 1360. Individual features of its furnishings also have their own history: the largest bell was cast in 1593, and the clock comes from the dissolved Pavlánů monastery in Nová Paka. The building’s history, its religious function and the clock’s origins offer insight into different aspects of the church.
Mlázovice’s former spa tradition includes its peat baths. They operated under constant medical supervision from 1898 until they were closed in 1953 as part of a reorganisation of the healthcare system. After that, the bath buildings, including the hotel and guesthouse, provided the basis for a social care facility for older people. The area once had twelve iron-rich springs and peat deposits, which were also associated with the town’s spa tradition.
Landscape and Hiking Trails
Mlázovice lies on the western edge of the Podzvičinsko Basin, on the ridges of Chlumy, Mlázovický Chlum and Hořický Chlum. The blue-marked hiking trail starts in the town, leads to Záduší, crosses the red ridge trail near Mount Maxinec, and continues to Ostroměř railway station. The route’s starting point, notable points along the way and destination are therefore specified. Trail conditions can change; check them before setting out.
Mezihoří is a district of the market town of Mlázovice, surrounded by deep forests crossed by the Javorka River. Several hiking trails pass through Mezihoří, which is visited by hikers and cyclists. The options described differ for planning purposes: the blue-marked trail is described as running to a specific railway station, while Mezihoří is described as having several trails and being suitable for hiking and cycling.
