Discover Choteč: Festival, Sports and Culture
Accommodation in Choteč
Choteč brings together three different themes for planning a trip: the Kočí v Chotči music and theatre festival, a sports area in the western part of the village, and cultural landmarks around St. Nicholas Church. If you are looking for hotels in Choteč, the reason for your visit may shape the timing: a festival visit depends on a specific date, while sports and local history appeal to different interests.
Kočí v Chotči and the event date
Kočí v Chotči is a music and theatre festival that has been held in Choteč since 1996 and takes place every year around the second Saturday in August. The venues are spread throughout the village and the surrounding countryside. They include a playground, a pond, the church, a meadow and a forest. If you would like to plan your stay around the festival, check the specific event date against the latest festival information before booking.
Play and sports by the pond
The freely accessible sports area is in the western part of Choteč, by the pond, and has five courts. The children's playground has climbing equipment, swings, a slide and a sandbox. The same area also has an asphalt court, another tennis court, a boules court and a workout area. This lets you decide whether to include the playground or a particular court in your plans. The area is freely accessible, but individual courts may have their own rules. Check these if a specific use is important to you.
St. Nicholas Church and local history
St. Nicholas Church was remodelled in the Baroque style in 1749–1750. Its ceiling features a fresco depicting the legend of Saint Francis of Paola. The church is also associated with notable historic tombstones: they commemorate Kateřina Bořková z Maleřova and Jiří Bořek z Maléřova, dating from 1549, and Kateřina Maleřovská z Chotče, dating from 1583. The former fortress of Choteč was converted into a rectory, completed in 1562. A memorial plaque on house no. 4 marks the birthplace of the organist and composer Jan Křtitel Kuchař.
Streams, exhibitions and getting there
The Chotečský potok flows through Choteč, rises in the forests near Pustá Proseč and joins the Javorka near Šárovcova Lhota. The route near Měchurův Mill is a different one: it runs along the Radotínský potok and is suitable for walking and cycling. The two stream names therefore refer to different local features: the Chotečský potok flows through the village, while the described route follows the Radotínský potok.
Flower exhibitions are regularly held in the greenhouses of Lukscheiter. If an exhibition is important to your visit, check the dates in advance. Bus services connect Choteč with nearby villages and towns; check the current timetable before travelling.
