In Miletín, an educational trail, theatre history, and historic buildings come together. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, these different themes can help guide your choice of destination. The relevant access conditions are also important for planning: while some visits must be arranged in advance, another site is normally not open to the public.

The educational trail and sites along the way

The Naučná stezka K. J. Erbena is designed as an entertaining and educational trail for adults and children. Nine checkpoints mark the route, which offers beautiful views of the Podzvičinsko region. Miletínské lázně are also one of the trail’s stops. Tourists and other visitors to Miletín visit the Church of the Annunciation during walks on the Naučná stezka K. J. Erbena. In this way, the educational trail links its checkpoints with named sites and views of the region. If you are interested in a walk that also offers opportunities to learn, its specifically stated focus on adults and children is a useful guide.

Take part in amateur theatre

The Muzeum českého amatérského divadla is dedicated to the development of Czech amateur theatre. The exhibition spans the basic sources of folk theatre and the National Revival, the heyday around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, and amateur theatre today. The collection includes painted stage curtains. Visitors can also step onto the stage and try out the basic technical equipment of a theatre. The museum thus combines a historical overview with a hands-on insight into theatre work. Those especially interested in the development of amateur theatre will find both its history over time and a direct connection with the stage here.

Monastery remains and planning access

The Klášterní sklepení is the only surviving remnant of a ruined fortress and an abandoned monastery of the Teutonic Order. The complex includes two halls carved into the rock, separated by stone Gothic portals. There are also masonry vaulted stairways and a narrow corridor leading towards a well. These architectural details make the site especially interesting for travellers who would like to explore historic architecture.

The Miletínská věž was originally the eastern main gate of a monastery and was raised to three storeys in 1586. It is normally not open to the public. Only on event days, such as during a fair or a pilgrimage, is it included in a tour of all the town’s sights. If you are planning to visit on such an occasion, check the event dates in advance. Free visits to the Church of the Annunciation can be arranged by prior agreement; check the access conditions before your visit as well.

Art and a local speciality

Epopej Miletína is an artistic interpretation of the first written mention of Miletín. The 5.5-metre-high bronze sculpture is located in Na Parkáni Park and represents four symbolic milestones in the town’s history. The artwork thus draws on Miletín’s past and translates it into a visual form.

Miletínské modlitbičky are also part of local history. After the restitution in 1991, Karel Erben resumed making them using the original recipe and continues to do so today. If you would like to include their production in your travel plans, ask the producer in advance for the latest information. Along with the theatre museum, historic buildings, and educational trail, this offers another way to discover Miletín, although the access conditions are not the same at every stop.
