Mladějov: Find hotels for your stay
Accommodation in Mladějov
Mladějov brings together historic buildings, memorial sites and a landscape shaped by sandstone. When planning a stay, you can focus on two things: sacred and local architectural history, or named hiking and cycling routes. This lets you focus on individual cultural sites or on the destinations and routes that pass through Mladějov.
Church of St. Giles and cultural heritage
The Church of St. Giles dates from the 14th century and features Baroque alterations. Protected furnishings include the baptismal font and two statues from the side lattice gates of the main altar. A restored monument to the fallen of the First World War stands on the south wall of the church entrance hall. Access to it is unrestricted. Services are held regularly in the church; exact times may change. Twice a year, soprano Karolína Žmolíková gives concerts there. If you would like to plan your visit around a service or concert, check the relevant dates in advance.
Other cultural points of interest include the sandstone crucifix by regional sculptor Josef Zeman, the bell tower and the pseudo-Baroque Mladějov Castle. The tower dates from 1793; a surviving bell bears depictions of St. Wenceslas and St. John of Nepomuk. Husův sbor was opened on August 21, 1938. The castle was carefully restored after a fire in 2002. This offers a perspective ranging from sacred furnishings and regional sculpture to precisely dated construction and restoration events.
Sandstone landscape and viewpoints
Mladějovská Rokle is near the church and is a protected natural monument with striking sandstone scenery. Mladějov-Pařízek offers a different perspective: from there, you can see Trosky, Kozákov, the Krkonoše Mountains and Ještěd, weather permitting. This distinction is useful when planning: the ravine combines protected nature with a specific landform, while the viewpoint reveals the surrounding area through several named destinations.
The Mladějovsko landscape area, administered by the municipality of Mladějov, is also part of the regional context. It lies on the southern or southeastern edge of the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area and the Podtrosecká údolí Nature Reserve. The local sandstone landscape and the wider protected-area context are therefore related but do not refer to the same area.
Hiking and cycling routes through Mladějov
Several named trails pass through Mladějov and can be distinguished by their markings and destinations. The red-marked trail at the Mladějov stop is part of the Rumcajs Trail from Mladějov to Jičín. The Golden Trail of the Bohemian Paradise is also marked red: it runs through Mladějov and continues from there via Prachovské skály to Jičín. When comparing these two hiking trails by their routes, the Golden Trail additionally names Prachovské skály as a waypoint.
For cycling trips, long-distance cycle route No. 14 passes through Mladějov; it runs between Hrádek nad Nisou, Liberec and Hradec Králové. The Jičín–Trosky cycle route also passes through the village, then continues via Dolský Mlýn to Trosky. The yellow route 2 of the Český ráj bike-bus network also passes through Mladějov. If you are planning to use this connection, check the timetable in advance, as times may change. Jičín and Trosky are different destinations on the routes and cycle routes mentioned; Dolský Mlýn is another named point along the route to Trosky.
