Zlosyn: Discover Baroque History and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Zlosyn
Zlosyň brings together Baroque architectural history, local places of remembrance and landscape features including a pond, forest and cycling routes. Each of these points of interest offers a different focus: in the village, the focus is on architectural and settlement history, while the surrounding area also offers nature and cycling. If you are looking for a hotel, you can start by planning your stay around these interests.
Baroque Estate and Places of Remembrance
After a presumed resettlement, a Baroque estate with a granary was established in Zlosyň; the granary is the village’s dominant architectural structure. Historically, the village square with its pond was the centre of the village. The landmark building and the former centre of the settlement thus represent different aspects of local history.
A chapel was built in 1942 on the site of a monument beneath which the remains of Russian soldiers from 1913 had been buried. Zlosyň also has a monument to those who fell in both world wars. The chapel and the monument mark different contexts of remembrance, adding further historical associations to the story of the Baroque estate.
Pond, Hill and Forest
Zlosyň lies at the foot of Dřínovský vrch, which was used as a hillfort in prehistoric times. A hillfort is a fortification in an elevated location; in the case of Dřínovský vrch, the term refers to its prehistoric use. The pond in Zlosyň is fed by groundwater from Dřínovský vrch as well as by surface runoff from rainwater.
Zlosyňský háj is a continuous woodland, made up mainly of mixed forest, pine and beech. It is considered the region’s highest-quality continuous woodland. Dřínovský vrch and the Dřínovská stráň Nature Reserve are also nearby. For nature enthusiasts, the forest, pond and nearby landscape destinations therefore offer different points of interest.
Cycling Routes and Nearby Destinations
A network of flat cycling routes is among the local recreational options. The 2025 seasonal guide lists the cycle tour “Mezi řekami nejen za zvonicemi”, which passes through Zlosyň and the Zlosyňský háj; route conditions may vary by season. When planning an outing, it is therefore worth distinguishing between the local network of flat cycling routes and the seasonal conditions that apply to the tour mentioned above.
The state-owned Veltrusy Chateau and its park are also near Zlosyň. When planning your days, you can distinguish between the local cycling routes and nearby nature and cultural destinations.
