Sailing on the Orlík Reservoir

Yacht Club Solenice is a sailing club at the Orlík Dam. Its practical sailing courses take place on the Orlík Reservoir and start from the base at Camp Povodí Vltavy Kameny, between Podskalí and Trhovky. For orientation, two locations are important: the club is at the dam, while the courses start from the base mentioned above.

Anyone can sign up at Kameny Summer Camp and try sailing on round-course sailboats. When planning, you can distinguish this offer from the Yacht Club’s practical courses: the summer camp focuses on signing up and trying out this type of boat.

The history of sailing is also linked to two facts from 1974. The Yacht Club was founded on 19 October 1974 as “Jachetní oddíl Solenice” within TJ Solenice. Kameny Sailing Camp dates back to a racing training camp held in 1974. For the club, the year marks its founding date; for the camp, it marks its historical origins in a training camp.

Dam and power station

The Orlík Dam near Solenice is 91 metres high and is particularly popular with fans of water sports and sailing. It is therefore of interest both to travellers who enjoy water sports and to those interested in a prominent regional structure.

There is a power station inside the dam, which can be visited on a guided tour with advance reservation. If you plan to visit, confirm that the tour is available before travelling. The required reservation makes this visit a different option from sailing activities on the reservoir.

Landscape and nature trail

Solenická podkova is a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Vltava and one of the landscape highlights of Central Bohemia. It draws attention to the shape of the river, providing a landscape contrast to the dam as a structure.

The Naučná stezka Solenice nature trail runs through Solenice and, in places, along the Vltava below the Orlík Dam. Its main themes are water management, history and local nature. The trail description was published in 2022; check the local signs before your walk. The trail is a themed option that brings together nature, history and water management.

Practical information

The pedestrian bridge in Solenice was scheduled to reopen on 29 July 2026 at 3 p.m., following repairs to a damaged barrier system. Check the current crossing conditions before your trip.
