Oráčov combines two churches from different periods and building traditions with the medieval Hradiště Starý zámek. The hillfort is located about 1 km northwest, on Zámecký vrch. For travelers who weigh architectural history and archaeological connections to a place when choosing a destination, Oráčov offers several distinct points of interest. The Jewish cemetery within the cadastral area and other historical connections near Klečetná add to this perspective.

Churches with different architectural histories

The Catholic Church, dedicated to Saint James the Greater, is a Baroque building from the first half of the 18th century. Its history can be traced back to the 14th century; extensive restoration began in 1746. Its historical depth, construction period and restoration date describe different stages, not a single construction date.

The Evangelical church has stood in Oráčov since 1902. Its architecture draws on Gothic and Romanesque building traditions; since 2001, it has been a protected immovable cultural monument. The two churches therefore represent different combinations: the Catholic church is Baroque and has older historical roots, while the Evangelical church dates from the 20th century and draws on older stylistic traditions. Construction date, stylistic influences and monument status are separate characteristics.

The medieval Hradiště Starý zámek

The Hradiště Starý zámek is located on Zámecký vrch, about 1 km northwest of Oráčov. The surviving remains include stone fortifications, curved ramparts and a ditch. In 1295, the Oráčov vladyka Odolen resided at this site. The structures and the date offer two different ways of understanding the site: the form of the fortifications and the specific, dated history of a person. This makes it possible to place the hillfort in a different historical context from the churches, where the construction period and building tradition are the main focus.

Other historical points of interest

The Zderaz-Oráčov Jewish cemetery lies within the cadastral area of Oráčov. Near Klečetná, there is also a connection to mining history: Trpasličí díra, in the forest above Klečetná, is a drainage adit from a long-abandoned silver mine. The geographical locations differ: the cemetery is within the cadastral area of Oráčov, while the adit is in the forest above Klečetná. The history of the cemetery and mining thus complements the themes of religious architecture and medieval fortifications.

Getting oriented and getting there

The so-called Zlatá stezka still connects Hůrky and Klečetná. Cycle route CT 8167 runs from Oráčov railway station to the junction near Čížkov; check the current route markings before setting out. Oráčov railway halt is on line 161 between Rakovník and Bečov nad Teplou. These details describe different points of orientation: a route between two named places, a cycle route with a start and end point, and a halt on a named railway line. Please check the timetable for your specific train journey.
