When looking for hotels in Luštěnice, it is worth first deciding what you want to focus on during your stay. Local points of interest include the history of St. Martin’s Church and the castle, archaeological finds from the area, and recreational cycling on the easy terrain in the surroundings. This can help you decide whether you would rather combine your trip with architectural and local history or with outdoor activity.

Church, castle, and Baroque art

St. Martin’s Church was already a parish church in the 14th century. The present-day church dates from 1739 and has been listed as a national cultural monument since May 3, 1958. Its early ecclesiastical role and the present-day building represent different historical periods.

Luštěnice Castle was probably created at the beginning of the 18th century by rebuilding an older fortress. Between 1760 and 1774, it was transformed into its present form. Its probable origins and the later, dated transformation are two separate stages in the castle’s history. Today, the castle is privately owned.

The statue of St. John of Nepomuk is a Baroque work of art. It depicts the saint standing on a large fish and adds a striking artistic motif to the architectural history.

Early history and military past

Numerous archaeological finds attest to early settlement in the area where Luštěnice is now located. The earliest documents, dating from 1268, mention Pavel z Luštěnic as the founder of a monastery near Mělník. The settlement history of the area and the mention of a specific person offer different ways of exploring the town’s past.

The former Luštěnice transmission station was structurally completed and put into operation in 1976; it ceased operating in 1991. It served as a communications station for the staff of the Central Group of Forces stationed in Milovice. This adds a chapter of military history to the history of the church and castle.

Zelená is the northernmost extension of the former Milovice–Mladá military training area and is located near Luštěnice.
