Křešín: Nature and cycling routes at the foot of the Brdy Hills
Accommodation in Křešín
Křešín lies at the northern foot of the Brdy ridges, at an altitude of 448 metres, in a forested area managed by the Military Forests. The village combines a botanically significant protected area with views of the Litavka and the Brdy peaks, local educational trails and cycling connections. There are therefore several highlights to consider when planning your trip: Na horách is a nature conservation site, the trails each follow their own routes, and the chapel adds a historical and religious dimension. You can decide whether you would like to focus on the landscape, cycling routes, protected flora or local history.
Nature conservation and landscape
The Na horách Natural Monument is a Category IV protected area (a managed reserve) in the cadastral area of Křešín. It protects a large, exceptionally species-rich site that is significant for its plant life. Its flora includes the common pasqueflower (Pulsatilla pratensis), the green-winged orchid (Orchis morio), common juniper (Juniperus communis) and other local plants. This gives the area a clear botanical focus: its conservation value lies in several species as well as in the species-rich site as a whole.
Křešín also offers a good view of the Litavka valley and the Brdy peaks. The view adds another perspective on the landscape to the nature theme. The forests around Křešín are also considered a good area for mushroom picking, and the landscape is suitable for relaxation. If you are interested in plant life, the natural monument is a specific highlight. For mushroom picking, the surrounding forests are the relevant destination.
Educational trails and cycling routes
The Fabiánova educational trail runs through Křešín and introduces tourists and cyclists to local sights and the natural beauty of the Podbrdsko region. It thus places the village in a wider regional context. Another educational trail, Z Jinec na Olymp Brd, runs through the Na Horách area. The two trails are therefore described in relation to different locations: Fabiánova to Křešín and Podbrdsko, and Z Jinec na Olymp Brd to Na Horách.
Cycling route 302 runs through Křešín on its route from Dolní Líšnice to Hořovice. It is of moderate difficulty, signposted along roads, and suitable for mountain bikes and trekking bikes. This information is useful when choosing a route because it covers both the difficulty level and the specified types of bicycle. The Velký Jinecký circuit offers another described route: it runs from Jince via Křešín on cycling route 302 towards Felbabka. Both descriptions mention Křešín and cycling route 302, but refer to different points along the routes. When comparing routes, therefore, check whether you mean the Dolní Líšnice–Hořovice route or the route from Jince towards Felbabka.
Chapel and spring tradition
The Chapel of the Immaculate Virgin Mary was built in 1855. May devotions are held there in spring. Alongside nature and trails, a historic building and a religious tradition are therefore also separate points of interest for a visit. If you are interested in the May devotions, spring is the period mentioned for them.
Plan your journey
Křešín can be reached by a Class III road; the Hořovice–Příbram bus route also serves the village. If you are planning to travel by bus, it is a good idea to check the route timetable before setting off. You can then match the stated travel options to the focus of your stay: the natural monument and forests, one of the routes described, or the chapel and its spring devotions.
