Hrdlořezy combines a rich archaeological history with cycling and walking routes and a sports complex. This gives you different options when planning your trip: you can explore the Předliška archaeological site and its historical periods, include the historic village square, or treat the village as one leg of a route. Local sports facilities add another focus. If you are looking for a hotel, consider in advance whether culture, outdoor activities, or sports will shape your stay.

Předliška: A Fortified Site with a Long History of Settlement

The Předliška archaeological site lies on a promontory 56 metres above the Jizera River. A transverse rampart encloses a fortified area of about six hectares. Its location and surviving earthworks give the site its archaeological significance. Finds at Předliška attest to settlement in the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, and the Middle and Late Hillfort periods. The site is protected as a historic monument.

The interpretation of the site is also part of its history: it was probably a cult site of the Únětice culture. The fortified site near Hrdlořezy is considered one of the oldest fortified places in the Mladá Boleslav region. Those interested in early settlement can consider the different historical periods and possible ritual use together, while treating this cautious interpretation as a possibility rather than a certainty.

Directions and Visit Planning

A set of directions from 2017 leads from the northern edge of Hrdlořezy along a path that climbs northwest to the archaeological site. At a rocky slope, the path branches right, or northeast, toward the Předliška farmstead. According to the directions, no road leads directly to the site. As the information is based on directions from 2017, check current trail conditions before your visit.

Village Square and Local History

The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk is the dominant feature of Hrdlořezy’s historic village square. It provides a clear focal point when looking at the village centre. Another way to explore the area’s history is through Václav Tarantík: during the Second World War, he served with the 1st Czechoslovak Bomber Squadron in England. He was killed on 13 July 1944 during a patrol flight over the Atlantic. The chapel and his biography represent different aspects of local history: the landmark building on the village square and one person’s experience of the war.

Cycling and Walking Routes

Local cycling route No. 8157 runs from Mladá Boleslav-Debř through Hrdlořezy to Bukovno. This places the village along the route between these three stops. A green-marked walking route also passes through Hrdlořezy and continues to nearby Mladá Boleslav. The two route descriptions offer different kinds of guidance: the cycling route gives its course through several places, while the walking route describes the way toward Mladá Boleslav. Signage and surfaces may change, so take their current condition into account when planning your trips.

A Sports Complex for a Range of Activities

Hrdlořezy Sports Complex offers tennis, nohejbal, volleyball, ball hockey, basketball, and small-sided football in particular. The complex also has a tennis practice wall and a children’s area with swings, a slide, and a sandbox. The facilities therefore include both several sports and play options for children. You can include them as a separate focus in your day’s plans alongside the historical sites and routes. If you have specific plans, check the current operating details; the facilities described here do not provide information about individual opening hours.

Choose what to search for based on which of these aspects of Hrdlořezy interests you most during your stay.
