Hlavenec: Monuments, Chapel and Routes
Accommodation in Hlavenec
In Hlavenec, historical monuments and a chapel meet named hiking and cycling routes. To help plan your trip, you can consider the architectural history and the routes separately: for the cultural landmarks, dates, imagery and attributions are particularly striking; for the routes, the course and type of path differ.
Monuments and Architectural History
Rudolf II’s hunting lodge, also known as Hubertus, stands at the highest point in Hlavenec and is visible from a distance. It had four small towers; their masonry sections have survived to this day. Its location and surviving structural features give the building a distinctive character among Hlavenec’s historical sites.
The monument to Emperor Charles VI stands in a field about 0.3 km from the edge of the village. The inscription at the entrance gives 1723–1724 as the years of construction and names Matyáš Braun as the sculptor. The monument depicts Saint Hubert, hunting dogs and a stag with golden antlers. Both the monument and the enclosed grounds are protected.
Another landmark is the monument to those who fell in the First World War. It was unveiled on 5 July 1930 and created by Emanuel Zentner, a sculptor from Staré Boleslav. The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary originated as a bell tower built in 1815; its replacement bell, Marie-Anna, was consecrated in 1948. These details cover different aspects of the village’s history: the construction of a building, the unveiling of a monument and the consecration of a bell.
Hiking and Cycling Routes
The red-marked hiking trail from Kostelec nad Labem to Lysá nad Labem passes through Hlavenec. In the village centre, it branches off to the monument to Emperor Charles VI. This connection helps you consider the hiking trail’s route and the monument’s location together. If you plan to hike the trail, check the current signage beforehand.
Cycle Route No. 0039, “CĂsaĹ™ská lesnĂ,” enters the Hlavenec area via road III/2752. In the southern part of the settlement, it switches to a partly surfaced farm track and leaves the area at the western edge of the village, heading towards the swimming pool in Lhota. Cycle Route No. 8156 from Hlavenec, rozcestĂ, to DolnĂ Slivno branches off from Route 0039 as a local connection. It follows road III/2752 northwards through the village centre. The two routes therefore differ both in their course and in the type of section described: Route 0039 includes a partly surfaced farm track, while Route 8156 follows the road through the village centre.
The “Krajinou Rudolfa II.” nature trail is signposted in Hlavenec and partly follows the red-marked hiking trail and Cycle Route No. 8156. As route conditions and signage may change, check them before setting out.
