On the village square in Nové Jirny stands the Neoclassical Chapel of St. Rosalia; in the forest is the Chapel of the Virgin Mary. There is also the St. Hubert monument and the Vidrholec natural area beyond the village. These themes offer concrete starting points for choosing where to stay: you can focus on local architecture and history, or explore protected habitats.

Chapels with Different Histories

The Chapel of St. Rosalia on the village square dates from 1872. Its Neoclassical classification refers to an architectural movement inspired by the forms of antiquity. Its year of construction, style, and location provide three concrete points of reference if you are interested in local cultural heritage.

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary has a different historical and geographical context. It was built in 1914 in the forest of Nové Jirny, at a place called “V zadních dubinách.” Members of the Jirny Beautification Association built the chapel, which has a small bell tower. Unlike the Chapel of St. Rosalia, its forest setting takes center stage, while the Rosalia Chapel is distinguished by its location on the village square and its Neoclassical design. This allows you to explore two different local buildings and their respective connections to their surroundings.

The St. Hubert Monument and Its Surroundings

The St. Hubert monument commemorates St. Hubert, the patron saint of beaters and hunters. It is located along the connecting path across a meadow toward Jirny. Its dedication and location offer different points of reference: the dedication explains the monument’s theme, while its location describes its position along the path. If you plan to take this route, bear in mind that trail conditions can vary seasonally.

Protected Nature Beyond Nové Jirny

The NRBC 5 – Vidrholec biocenter lies beyond the Nové Jirny district, is fully functional, and covers 1,000 hectares. The Cyrilov Nature Reserve is part of this biocenter. Its protected features include purple moor-grass and bilberry oak forests, variable birch populations, the floodplain ecotype of hornbeam, and old oaks and pines. These natural features are therefore quite different from the chapels and the monument: here, habitats and trees are the focus. If you are interested in the landscape, the diversity of the protected features listed here offers a concrete way to explore the natural area.
